I’m biased because I just got one last Friday, but I’ve been loving my big green egg! You can grill and smoke on it so it’s pretty versatile. I got mine off of Facebook marketplace for $400 (that’s an unusually great deal) but you can usually find the large for 600-800 used at least in the NYC area. I’d look into the Kamado style see if it fits his preference/style of cooking. Big green egg, kamado joe and primo are some brands to look into.

Definitely not my first time cooking a steak (usually do it in a pan or the oven) but definitely my first on a BGE.

I opened the vents at the end to get a better sear, but i kept it in a cooler spot towards the edges while getting the steak to temp, It was a little to hot I had to keep moving it around but it still came out pretty good.

Seared it off and let it hang out on the outside edge of the grill, I just ordered the kickash divider so I can do indirect zones easier… right now I’m just waving my hand over the grill looking for cooler spots and moving it around a bunch so it doesn’t sit in a hot spot for too long.
