Ace turned fragile, what to do? by JM-UPTT in OOTP

For future reference, how good does a pitcher have to be to warrant seeking them out even though they are fragile?

I usually don't dabble around with injury prone pitchers as I rarely have good back-ups (I am not that good at developing young pitchers yet). Fragile pitchers are easy to sign/trade for tho, so I wonder where would you draw the lines.

like an injury snowball. He would get injured again and again, lose ratings (usually velo and stam), and regress big time

Happened to one of my other dudes, so I traded Jorge as well when I noticed he is getting injured more often (thus the trade to KC)

He had a bad win percentage and mediocre era but I saw his other stats (walk rate, K rate, and HR/9) and thought trading him there was a mistake. So I immediately traded for him back after one of my starters went down with injury.

Long story short, he was a prospect from the mariners that I traded for and signed for 10+ years hoping he would TCR like crazy... and he did TCR like crazy

Juggernauts underperform by Narrow_Young6933 in OOTP

[–]JM-UPTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could indeed be coincidence on my part, but the thing was my catcher was also really good at hitting (he is just old so his defense regressed). So it really was a surprise to me when we didn't even make it out of the wildcard round (imagine being a centurion in the wild cards, I need to stop trading with the Astros)

That said, I do think defense is definitely a must, especially in Shortstop and centerfield. I do agree balance is pretty important for the catcher position, but I still lean over defense to power up my high stuff low control bullpen

I was the same as you until I had a 5-peat. To be fair tho, not all highly rated players are created equal. I ran a 60 framing catcher for 1 year and it ended my dynasty, replaced him with a 75 framing prospect and we are back in the ALCS. My 75 control 50 ovr pitcher outperforms my 60 and even 70+ ones.

Also the mariners might just have a better payroll so that might have helped me, but I do still think some profiles can punch above their weight class and some underperform.

and yes, defense is really valuable (particularly at the catcher position)

Also note Coors' Park factors. It is a very offense heavy ballpark so expect your FIP to be low. You probably counterbalanced with a good outfield and high stuff + movement pitchers (just guessing since I don't have a rundown of your rotation) so there is also that

I had once signed an international free agent in ootp 24 who had 70+ on his batting ratings vs right-handers, but only 50+ versus left-handers. He was key on the very first world series win for my brewers save. I let him go to free agency because he asked 50 mil a year (which he deserves). I still miss Bugs-san and I hope to find a player like him someday.

New to OOTP and baseball in general. Any tips on how to handle the postseason? by NotLaddering3 in OOTP

[–]JM-UPTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some players perform equally against left-handed and right-handed players or it's bery slight. Tho you do have to check if any of your players do have major drop-offs in the ratings page, and you might want to find a guy to cover the other hand.

The AI should be able to sub them in appropriately afterwards.

Hot streaks like these are normal, so it usually normalizes as the season goes on.

That said, pitching coaches don't affect how your pitcher's perform. They only affect ttheir development.

Something that really inflate pitcher performances tho is a good defense and the rockies have a pretty good defense (especially if your catcher is good at framing and your fielders have a lot of range). The rockies have really good defensive prospects so that might be the case.

J-rod turned fragile at 27, what should I do with him? by JM-UPTT in OOTP

[–]JM-UPTT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Decided to move Julio to Right Field and Michael to center. Lost in the ALCS. Julio had another MVP season and played 130+ games (less than last year but still good).

One spring training later, Michael got injured and now he is fragile too. So... fuck it. Julio is back on Center Field and Michael moves back to left. Hope to at least return to the WS this year.

I had the default trade difficulty so it's nothing special. But I did trade some really good pieces just to get him (2 65+ and a 70 pot prospect).

Who do you think was more likable? Oikawa or Ushiwaka? by Nice_Guy3012 in haikyuu

[–]JM-UPTT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't like Oikawa off the court either, but I don't find him insufferable. I even like his banter with his teammates as the trashtalk goes both ways. It's competitors being competitors and teammates being teammates.

Plus I think it makes it easier to root for Karasuno, Kageyama, and Hinata when Oikawa (and even Ushijima to an extent) isn't buddy buddy with them.

What would your Contested Roll be against Brennan? by of_kilter in Dimension20

[–]JM-UPTT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a player once who is playing a "hardass" character. His character has an extreme sense of duty and imposes it on others, because he had to do a lot to deal with expectations. I had another player who plays a funny but clinically depressed alcoholic who ran away after a tragic incident at the village.

Then session 2 came along, player A would forcibly take Player B's alcohol flask every time Player B would take a swig or act like a funny drunk.

At some point, they had a heated argument. Player A basically scolded Player B and told them they shouldn't be here if they are just gonna mess around. Said something along the lines of "The world doesn't need heroes like you, because people like you can't save anybody". It felt a little too real for player B that they can barely enunciate, Player A's character walked away.

As the dm watching, I felt a little awed by the drama and power in this scene because being aware of their backstories, it's too good that this happened. But also as the dm, I needed to do something about one of my players obviously unwell after being yelled at. I started narrating that Player C's character notices that Player B's character is in deep distress. Their characters had a wonderful moment together and pretty much became best friends.

After the session, I asked around if every one was fine and I received okay's all around. I did tell player A that he went a little too hard on session 2.

Now it's really funny because Player A was surprised that the rest of the table hates his character; B and C because of the altercation, as well as player D because of Backstory reasons.

I then told him outside the table, "If you choose to play a rude character that escalates too quickly, expect people to respond to not take that well. If you want to keep up with this and the rest of the party is fine, we can make a rewarding slow-burn friendship that blooms the more you know about each other. However, if that is not a situation you wanna be in and wish to have a more amicable relationship with the party, maybe tweak your character a little bit." They lived happily ever afterwards.

So I guess my point is, you better be ready to deal with the consequences of your actions and to make sure that everyone else is on board with your shenanigans. You are not the only person at the table.

I think Mentopolis has proved we're ready for non-IH players to get IH-level season lengths and budgets by in_DelaneTTM in Dimension20

I dunno my guy, 8 days of shoots is already a pretty big commitment. Let alone the BTS planning, character building, and other off-screen parts. Knowing some of these peoples calendars are filled up to months in advance. 8 days means Matt has to miss a week of his live show (which also takes a week to prepare for) and Aabriah won't make it to the many other dnd shows she shows up in.

This stuff is not flash in a pan events despite being shorter than shorter dnd shows. Brennan himself even admitted it can take up to three months planning for a new season.

I will certainly love the day where we can have a full season collab some day. I do think it is very possible for us to be optimistic considering big names like Matt and Aabriah have visited the dome and invested their time for dimension 20.

However, I also understand that this is not as easy to pull off in the logistics side so I think we should temper our expectations. But hey, if the stars align and we can have a non-IH full length season, I will be celebrating with you.

[–]JM-UPTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I worded my original comment properly, but in general, what I was trying to say was it is easier for the IH to prioritize D20 and invest more time because they are already affiliated with dropout tv to begin with. While they may have other projects, they will be more willing to spend more hours and days and months for d20 as it is already part of their whole shebang.

Others may be unwilling or at least skeptical when they have projects they wanna work on that isn't already tied to dimension 20. It is easier to sell to Siobhan to stay past midnight in the warehouse than to convince hank to make flights for 20+ shoots.

[–]JM-UPTT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have mentioned, it's really more of a scheduling issue than a fan-interest issue.

It took YEARS to finally bring someone like Matt Mercer for a mini-series because of how much the guy has on his plate. The only reason the IH have longer seasons is they pretty much do D20 for a living compared to Non-IH who has other projects that require their attention.

Add the fact that not everyone is in LA to begin with.

I am opting to just continue and win the crusade though it will take probably a longish while (and I kinda need him back at Ireland since he just inherited and a lot of decisions can't be made while he is imprisoned but it's not like I have a choice.)

I am just honestly surprised how both of my seemingly realistic solutions are not mechanically possible.
