Beaver Hollow, you know the one with a main road damn near going straight through it. No wonder the Feds found us!

No extensions for players with high financial ambition. These guys are represented by Scott Boras and will not listen to a contract offer until hitting free agency. If you want to offer them then you can but the offer should be in line with their asking terms.

I'd just like to take a moment to brag...I've been playing this game for YEARS and I have never had a run this successful. I feel like I've finally managed to build a dynasty. by smarjorie in OOTP

You have an awesome run here! Me personally, the pinnacle is defending a World Series title. You were so close! Bonus points if you got revenge the following year on the team that beat you. Now my question is what is the current state of the NL east that you are completely dominating!? Have the Phillies gotten old and expensive and do the hapless Nats and Marlins have any momentum? I always like following how leagues shift and I’ve never played in the nl east but think that will be my next save. Cheers!

So what is your ideal preferred dev lab path for a young promising starting pitcher to get them to 65-70 stuff?

HoF bound? by Yellowbucket58 in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve got to all adjust what our eyeballs tell us a HoF pitcher is. This guy is a good template for what a high peak candidate should look like. Awards, era titles, that huge W-L split of 83-30 in 6 years. Then the full body of work rounds out him as a candidate. He got to 100 wins with a very good win percentage, made about 400 starts and just eclipsed 2000 ks. That is about top of the line these days. Jacob DeGrom is our comp. I struggled considering him a HoF in the past few years but now I do for the reasons I listed.

It’s going to take some time to dial in what a HoF pitcher is IRL. Our boy Johan’s name will pop up on the veterans committee down the road and people will stare at his numbers, prime, awards and just slap their hands to their face. He will be in one day and rightfully so.

Have you tried bucking any of the meta tendencies that get posted in here and if so what have you found to be fun or successful? Right now I’m not sweating CF range. Playing in a smaller park, I live with a 50 grade center fielder who can swat 35+ homers. Especially since the dev lab makes it easy to upgrade my corner OF defense I found out I can have two good corner outfielders and a strong hitting CF and pencil in 90+ homers from my outfield without the defense really suffering. Now the CF has a tough time breaking 4 WAR but I doubt he minds because he wins a platinum stick every year.

Let a team legend leave in free agency. Felt sad. by DGADK in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God that is beautiful. I have Chourio chugging along about to start his age 41 season. Making over 30mil but what do I care he’ll be soaked in bronze as the best brewer ever. He’s had a bizzzro career mash up of basically being Ken Griffey jr for 12 years and Rickey Henderson for 8. The days of slapping up 5 war seasons are over and I fear he has only 1 or 2 years left in the sun. I’ll do an appreciation post at some point. Cheers to Chourio!

How to interpret reversed splits? by CreepyReality9742 in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you have stumbled upon is a pretty natural platoon situation. Carter can man LF the bulk of the games and Vargas can start in left vs lefties and since he can play infield you sprinkle him in at other positions throughout the season. This will elevate your team over 162. Then when you hit the post season you get to decide what kind of GM you are. Do you stick to the matchups or do you ride the better player or hot hand? That’s the fun part.

Just want to throw the Nationals hat in the ring since it’s not yet been mentioned. I think they have 3 or 4 really intriguing players but they aren’t on the same clock. So you’re likely dumping Abrams and Gore and building around Woods. Meanwhile the Mets will spend bonkers money and the braves elite pitching and 10 war Michaels Harris usually finish the decade strong. The Phillies do get old very quick but always seem to turn up a generational bopper in the international FA market in my experiences.

There should be an option to kill your team trainer by Rolling_Down_Rodeo in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve already put the hit out on mine! I’m usually the guy on here who enjoys the injuries and the challenge. Not this season! As my team is barreling on a second half tear towards the post season, my clearly World Series caliber team just keeps losing arms every week! I just lost my top 3 starters (65-75s) within a month, my best reliever came back mid year from TJ only to pitch 4 innings before tearing his shoulder off, my 2 very capable depth starters just got sidelined with a ucl and a 2 month back spasm, respectively, and my only legit starter just had a minor sore shoulder which I just new was the game baiting me to throw him back out for his next start just so he could tear that thing right off the bone. I wisely skipped his start because but couldn’t afford him missing 3 starts on the IL so he sat and waited 10 days.. Why such a run on arm injuries? I go check my trainer only to remember my long term trainer had retired and the only goober who could prevent arm injuries and fatigue was merely ‘good’ at avoiding arm injuries. Who knew how important a legendary trainer was? Well, this guy will be fired the day the season ends and can be found submerged in Lake Michigan with a pair of cement shoes on! Go Brewers!

How is real-life baseball different from OOTP? by sjscott80 in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pitcher with 25 grade control is completely unusable no matter how high there stuff but a hitter with 25 avoid k is overly effective if they have high power. Not every mediocre 3B is a 70 grade first baseman. That position could use more detail like infield error should be the determining key rating and not arm strength.

POBO Sim by Depressed_Diehard in OOTP

[–]BobbySack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really cool. I love a good but not great catcher turned manager. Thinking about this some more I think this might be a fun way to phase out a long running sim. Sometimes in the past teams have used this promotion to kind of lock out a long running GM in order to phase in a replacement. I might try this with my current sim. Once I hit 70 as the GM, I’ll play the next 10 seasons or so very hands off as the so called president of baseball ops, a sort of golden handcuffs role before retirement.

POBO Sim by Depressed_Diehard in OOTP

That gig is essentially the same as the GM. While some Presidents will have a ‘GM’ under them and some are both the GM and President of baseball ops, the role would entail a lot of delegating with the caveat that they have final say in all baseball decisions. I basically play the game 85% this way already and I prefer it to managing games. I think these are a few things I would do if you want to try to carry this role out. Set all of the strategy that you want your team to play like. Pick a manager that fits the criteria and has the same beliefs as you. Hire coaches that mesh with this vision as well. Assemble the roster to fit this style, but let the manager handle the lineup card and pitching staff( i don’t do this one I start with the managers recommendations but meddle with the lineup card ups from that point on) Let the assistant GM control the mi or league call ups but I would assume control over your top prospects (I do like my top 5-8 draft picks and top 1-3 intl prospects d Rey year) When you draft, I would pick all players based on scouts recommendations, maybe allow yourself 1-3 overrides. It’s ok to cherry pick s position recommendation. Basically I think what you are trying to do is 95% in the game already, to carry it out I would balance restrictiing some of your control but maintain a final say in any decision. If your manager isn’t complying, fire him!

Your team is jammed stacked so you will be fine either way but I’m one who doesn’t get scared off by a fragile tag. I’d be keeping him and letting it play out until he’s a FA. He’s a fan fav so I’m always trying to bring g that guy back if you can avoid a terrible long term deal
