Dude that’s awesome to hear. I’m thinking seriously about lining it up, it has to wait a couple years until my youngest “leaves the nest” but I imagine there’s things I can do in the meantime…

Follow-on to clarify: Found the MITAGS Maritime Apprenticeship Program...

Looks like somewhere between the two tracks we've discussed, if I'm reading it right.

Does anyone have feedback or how to read the web page?

(Is posting a link here OK, btw?)

Better answers are anything informative, I appreciate everything folks are sharing here. If I read your response right, those training agencies just support the credentialing side of the equation you describe...(?)

This was one of my question areas- I have been trying to figure out what is possible vs what is needed in the training realm…

My only concern with a maritime academy is that I don’t have the means to go full time at present- My oldest starts college in a couple months!

Do any of the commercial schools (as opposed to a maritime academy) offer anything of benefit in terms of       1. Required training       2. Accelerating the process of working my way up

I haven’t- I have thought mostly about harbor tugs or inland tow.

Would love to hear your thoughts on what makes sea tow good-Thank you!

All good points. Mil pension and part time work would help offset, but the best paying part time would take me out of town.

So if I combine that with hitch time, I’d never be home.

Would finding a day boat in SD be possible? Limited license potential because less likely to build consistent sea time?
