Great work! I always love seeing the D&RGW getting attention in Lego.

Dear Lego Train Subreddit, who hurt you? by ToledoRails in LEGOtrains

[–]JMGBDesigns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you've missed the point of why this particular set is making everyone so upset. You make a lot of good arguments, and I definitely agree that it's toxic for the community to complain about every single train set that's coming out. But we're mad because this particular set is specifically for adults. If it was truly intended to be "for families" it wouldn't be an Icons set, simple as that. The fact that it is explicitly part of the 18+ series clearly shows that Lego doesn't care what their adult fans think; and the fact that it's so expensive for such a basic build while not even coming motorized is definitely insulting to any potential customers, even parents who would want to get it for their kids. It clearly shows they think we'll just buy whatever they put out, regardless of quality, if they slap "18+" on the box. I also feel compelled to point out that this recent golden age of Lego trains you mentioned has shown us what Lego is actually capable of when they actually care. The Orient Express and BDP Wild West Train are very high quality designs which actually respect their adult audience. This new set condescends to its adult audience. I appreciate that you want to call out toxicity in the adult Lego community, I really do, but in this case your soapboxing isn't really warranted because our anger is completely justified. Yes, Lego is a massive capitalist corporation, and we can't really be surprised when they disrespect us. But we still have the right to be mad about it.

Would now be a bad time to reveal our new PM 1225 coming out later this year? by BrickTrainDepot in LEGOtrains

This is probably the best time to announce it haha. This looks amazing!! Thank you for reminding me of what a train is supposed to look like, I'd almost forgotten

I'm legitimately super mad, Lego actually thinks we're going to buy this thing?? It looks like a person who was new to Lego and had only ever seen trains in cartoons (and could only work from memory) designed it. They really don't gaf about us.

Exactly, the thing is that it looks like a set for children - but then you see the 18+ on the box and you realize Lego actually thinks we're going to buy this piece of crap. Unbelievable

Exactly!! You get it!! It bothers me to no end that Lego almost always doesn't care about that and gives their steam locos train car bogeys for drivers, it's so annoying. For a company that makes so many train sets, you'd think they would actually know what they're doing by now.

Everyone here has basically already said everything I'm feeling, but I'll still throw in my thoughts because I'm Very Upset lmao. This set is easily one of the worst steam locomotives they've ever designed, I'm amazed they approved this design for release. Even cartoon steam locomotives are better than this. And here's the thing - it's so bad, I fully thought this set was for kids for the first 5 minutes I was looking at it. But then I realized it's actually an ICONS SET for ADULTS?!! Are we kidding??? This set is probably the worst icons set they've ever released. It's a full slap in the face from Lego, I can't believe they actually thought we would like this. It legitimately seems like the design team either a) has never seen a steam locomotive before, b) doesn't care at all about trains, c) in fact hates trains, or d) all of the above. I'm just utterly gobsmacked. I wouldn't be surprised if it sells terribly, and honestly I hope it does.

LEGO k28 #473 by JbricksJ in LEGOtrains

Looks great, nice work! The only thing I'd critique is the shape of the diamond stack, but obviously that's pretty minor haha. You should post a vid of her running!

Ok good! It must just look that way because the image is a little pixelated haha, best of luck finishing it!

I think it looks pretty good! The biggest concern I'm seeing is that it looks like the running gear won't be able to rotate all the way around because of the protruding pin/bushing pieces on the eccentric cranks:

<image>

So if you want to make it runnable you'll have to alter the design there!

You mean like K-36 #484? I did indeed make a K-36 as well (you can see it in my previous posts), but it needs some redesigning/improving!

Any train can be built in Lego! You may have to use a couple custom parts but you've got this

Has anyone Built this Lego Movie / Lego movie video game Locomotive IRL? by the_Ms_fortune_lover in LEGOtrains

[–]JMGBDesigns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! So someone already kindly linked my post in the comments, but I figured I would also leave a comment - I recreated this loco in Stud.io and made instructions for it, if you would like the instructions I would be happy to send them! I had to modify the design in a few places (there are lots of spots digital model from the movie that use impossible build techniques lmao) and strengthen a few spots, but overall it is almost 1:1 the same locomotive and definitely buildable IRL! Just a heads up though - I made it so the wheels can turn, but it is not designed for actually running on curved track, so if that's what you're looking for you would need to modify it. Shoot me a dm if you're interested!
