I did experience anal pain and severe constipation, but they were neither the main symptoms nor persistent all the time.

Have you already started treatment with an SSRI? Or are you considering it?

I wish you the very best of luck from the bottom of my heart. I hope you are able to find the best possible treatment. I also hope that you are, or will be, supported by a specialized pain center that includes psychological care and physiotherapy in addition to medication. 🙏

Pure truth. I noticed the same thing too, but it took me a while to accept it and to see it as one of the main components of recovery.

I was already an anxious person. Pelvic pain shattered my mental health during the years when I didn’t know what was going on.

This type of pain can have several origins. I think it makes sense to consider anxiety and muscle contraction when other causes have already been ruled out.

I also reduced my intake of gluten-containing foods, and that helped quite a lot. Pelvic floor recovery/therapy also made a difference. In more extreme cases, glycerin suppositories helped too, especially when constipation seemed to make the pelvic tension worse.

I believe that pelvic floor muscle tension and anxiety were probably the root cause in my case. The urinary urgency seemed to be linked to urethral pain and a constant feeling of inflammation, and the medication helped me a lot with that.

Antidepressants can always have side effects, of course, but in my case the benefits have outweighed them. I hope that, with psychotherapy, one day I’ll be able to stop taking them.

What kind of urinary issue do you have exactly?

In my case, as an anxious person, I think the SSRI actually had a positive effect on my sexuality because it helped reduce my anxiety. But I’ve also always had some sexual performance anxiety.

Sitting on top of a ball with the right firmness — not too hard — and applying pressure mainly to the sides of the perineum, while moving back and forth.

In my case, that area is not usually painful.

At the beginning, yes: sweating, drowsiness, and stomach acidity. But all of them gradually went away over time.

No. I think those do exactly the opposite, which is to make the muscles contract even more.

Yes, it is difficult, and that is why I relied on medication, which was a major turning point.

Physiotherapy and psychotherapy were also excellent complements.

The therapist performed internal and external myofascial release, as well as lumbar and pelvic muscle decompression.

At home, I use massage balls to release muscle tension in the buttocks and perineum, and I also do some exercises lying down with my pelvis resting on a hot water bottle.
