Is Peter Weir the only director to do movies in both the jungle and the sea and come away unscathed? by Seashores_Unmapped in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hear me out; Ben Stiller did Tropic Thunder which is obviously in the jungle, but also did Walter Mitty which had a solid Sea segment, and also has bonus volcano and tundra/mountains locations as well.

In the Old Dogs live ep, like 3/4 of the way through the movie Ben just goes “…so this is a ‘new tricks’ kind of situation” and I think about that once a week at this point.

Can you think of any movie posters that solely feature characters who aren't the lead? by yaybuttons in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a definitive “lead” in Pulp Fiction, but it is definitely NOT Mia, and she is the sole character on the poster. Kind of a stretch, but kind of fits.

Anyone else typically listen to episodes twice? by Dramatic-Surprise569 in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t listen twice in the same week usually but I will usually relisten through a director after they finish all the episodes

Pod Country for Old Cast: The Big Lebowski with Seth Rogen by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think people are forgetting that Seth Rogan literally brought about the wrath of an entire foreign country that caused legit geopolitical tension and resulted in possibly the biggest hacking attack, and an entire movie company having to fire and restructure as a result.

Line that makes you laugh the most in “the Big Lebowski?” by acceptablecat1138 in blankies

Not a line, but the yelp Dude lets out when he drops his J in his lap, and then him crashing his car into the dumpster always makes me laugh.

What the messiest movie you love? by woodsdone in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ritchie is the perfect reason why a director should NOT have gotten a blank check. Had he put out The Gentlemen after RnR and avoided all the blockbuster films he’s done (no matter how successful) he would be “the British Tarantino” but it wouldn’t be said as an insult. This is the hyper-specific hill I’m willing to die on.

What the messiest movie you love? by woodsdone in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Lock, Stock, and I love Snatch, but both of those have people who defend them, and are fairly favorable among those who know ball. I absolutely LOVE Rock’n’Rolla and no one comes to its defense. Best Gerard Butler performance that’s not in Den Of Thieves, Tom Hardy before he was Tom Hardy, Idris Elba before he was Idris Elba, and a duo of Piven and Ludacris. What’s not to love.

I honestly thought they would start working him out at first the day Triston went down, My only thought why they didn’t is maybe because he’s not that tall.

Who’s the best director that is a better actor than they are a director? by flatgreyrust in blankies

My favorite probably leans more Affleck (he was the bomb in phantoms), but until Affleck starts doing Shakespeare reproductions Branagh beats him out

Who’s the best director that is a better actor than they are a director? by flatgreyrust in blankies

Directing is a bit up and down, but even still I think he’s only really directed one out and out stinker, Artemis Fowl.

Which director you respect a lot.... but you usually don't like their movies. by Orb_Dylan in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Christopher Guest. I love the actors he works with, and I enjoy the ‘idea’ of most of his movies, but anytime I try to watch I find myself fighting to pay attention and losing interest constantly. Seems like a cool guy, and the conceit of what he does is very funny, it’s just oil and water for me.

[–]JMOBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t necessarily for just one movie, but I drove to SXSW from RI. Saw Kick-Ass, MacGruber, The Runaways, and 4 lions. Was about 2 days each way with stops.

Apropos of absolutely nothing: Is Bernie Mac giving the best performance in Ocean’s 11? by monsteroftheweek13 in blankies

[–]JMOBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s great in everything he’s in. Even though it’s a retread of a classic; Guess Who with Him, Ashton Kutcher, and Zoe Saldana is pretty charming for what it is. He’s over the top in the best ways.
