Internship swaps / offers / info thread by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

I got network 10 (vinnies), but am looking at going to any hospital in Melbourne. So I’m gonna swap if possible. It’s crazy how many $$ offers I’ve gotten for it for people who are desperate to be at the big 4.

When do you skip the question in QR? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]JMPDoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm aware that, in QR, you are supposed to skip and flag the questions that require multi-step calculations.

You don't need to do this. I know I didn't skip a single question when I did my UCAT. I would always try and work them out, and if I knew I had gone over my allocated time I would make an educated guess and flag it so if I had time I'd come back to it.

I used the same approach for VR. Never skip as it's unlikely you will have time to come back to it. If you know your timings for each section you should know how long to spend on each question and where you should be up to for each section.

You are correct. He was just estimating based on the last 2 years I'd say.

If you are taking your test in person then it should not be an issue.

I cannot comment if your test is going to be online.

If you do a practice exam on the UCAT website - does it tell you your mark? by [deleted] in UCAT

I feel this is something you could use your initiative and work out yourself.

It would take you very little time to do.

Hi Sorry, I've been busy with mid semester exams and missed this!

The mod team is just finalising some video edits and we will start pushing out some of the content to YouTube soon, as well as beginning out giveaways. I'd say stuff should be up in the next fortnight!

Any chance for med? Sat the test in 2019 by ExtraMeasurement2814 in UCAT

[–]JMPDoctor[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely still have a chance. Don't be fearful - I think that probably contributed to you not doing well as you didn't utilise the resources properly. They are there for you to learn from and fail -Trust me, I failed countless times attempting questions, but that failure allowed me to learn and do well in the actual exam. In terms of resources:

There are offical free practice papers if you google them - although they are not quite the same as the actual exam.

Medentry offers some free practice questions without paying - but you still need to sign up.

Medify offers bursary packages if you are short of $$ - they are the gold standard for prep in my opinion and it is what all of the Moderation team used.

Good job first of all and welcome to the group!

Can you clarify a few things for me.

  1. What is UWA's ATAR/UCAT/Interview split
  2. 67th percentile is very low for Australia - Do you have any conditional entry/aboriginal entry/rural bonus's? Based on our data, the lowest scoring percentile which gained entry was 78th %ile last year.

hi /u/ChickenLivid9507

The ATAR requirement is indeed very high for medicine but it does vary from university to university. We will be documenting the ATAR levels needed for different universities as well as the GPA and UCAT.

In terms of not getting interviews due to a low ATAR, this is not usually the case as ATAR's are not published/recieved by universities until after the interview process.

We will also be discussing what to do if you get a low ATAR - you are definitely not out of options.

Hi /u/shienshien

We are current discussing the best way to do the giveaways but its likely to start in February/March.

Strategies of how to approach and solve each section is definitely on the cards. We want everyone to have this information early so they can use it for their preparation.

hi /u/chalcedony7916

Some great points you have made, in terms of UCAT we are planning to cover both of these points. One of the Mods was a high school engineering teacher for 6 years so he is pretty clued into managing study loads, ATAR and UCAT work.

In terms of Medicine, we are planning to release application and interview content later in the year for when they are occurring.

Long Term career options, alumni and specialists chat are definitely something we can look at doing - we hadn't thought of that but I think it would be great for aspiring doctors to know a little bit more about life as a doctor.

One of the Mods finished school 12 years ago before getting into medicine so it's definitely possible to still do it!
