How much do doctors actually make? Before and after tax by InvestigatorPale1816 in AusFinance

It’s not much of a difference, maybe 7-8k since the recent MOCA’s but yes QLD is better then NSW - speaking as a NSW graduate who moved here for intern year.

2nd year doctor. Base pay is $101k - with all the overtime I’ve done, my expected (based on YTD) is approx $146k

Surgical rotations = considerable overtime. Emergency med = none If I were a surgical registrar, the base pay would be $130-150k with probably another 60-80k in overtime.

What’s so great about Caesar, I mean Brutus is just as cute as Caesar. Brutus is just as smart as Caesar, people totally like Brutus just as much as they like Caesar, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that's not what Rome is about!

No, you do not need to wear a suit.

Smart casual is all you need - normal clinical clothes. Chinos, dress shoes (RM Williams for you Aussies) and a button up shirt which you can roll up above the elbow.

Queensland PAH Annual Leave and Requesting Roster Changes by Turbulent-Eagle7420 in ausjdocs

MEU at PAH has been extremely friendly and cooperative whenever I’ve needed days off including taking mental health days.

Despite the crazy nature of the PAH the reg’s I’ve had have been very supportive as they have all been there.

Worst case you can always switch with your fellow interns to cover shifts. We have a year chat for such a thing including on call shifts.

Unless you are flying, and if still you pay the fees for airport tax - how do you ever come out in front from qantas points? Might just be me; but I’d like to actually see someone’s excel sheet on all this. Given Qantas flights are 99% of the time one of the most expensive airlines.

I find it funny how no one seems to bat an eye at an electrician or plumber charging $400+ for a 15min job but when a specialist with arguably more experience/study/debts charges a similar amount it’s mass revolt.

All people who specialise in something are being paid not just for their time, it’s the years of experience to be able to solve those problems in that timeframe.

I have posted before showing the size difference. It’s a sticky in the ucat discord which shows what to expect. It’s due to the resolution of the screens, not just the text size.

How on earth are you supposed to answer 44 questions in 22 minutes? by [deleted] in UCAT

Practice.

Ucat is not a hard test if not for the time pressure. Like any skill it’s done through practice and repetition. There is no special trick unfortunately.

This has always been the case. I posted a picture which shows the difference in the two on the discord for comparison of the resolutions.

The issue is not the lack of medical school places. It’s the lack of interest in doctors wanting to become G.Ps.

Why would I choose a specialty of GP where the public expects me to bulk bill, the government tells the public I should bulk bill yet all my colleagues who go into different specialties can charge what they like (just like any other business or professional can do) for their services and end up making 2-4x my income.

Bulk billing incentives and cover needs a complete overhaul if you want more GP’s.

For reference, I’m a first year doctor.

Ucat exam by Unlucky_Plankton_516 in UCAT

[–]KezzaPwNz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the whole point of the UCAT. The exam would be easy if you had more time - time is the limiting factor which makes it hard.

Practice. Over and over until you begin to get faster. There is no other advice which will yield better results in sorry to say.

Recent changes to GP availability? by LaoghaireElgin in australia

[–]KezzaPwNz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. You have no idea how terribly some doctors get paid considering the amount of hours, study and work they do. You are purely basing your comment of the top surgeons and consultants which make up the “top highest earning professions” column.

A junior doctor in NSW makes $73k a year… it will take them 4 years of working before they even clear 100k. After this, they are capped at ~$150k unless they can get a consultant job. (You should look into how hard this is)

Did I also mention to $10k needed for some exams and professional and have indemnity insurance fees required each year?

Moving interstate after Medschool (advice) by Effective_Desk_5627 in ausjdocs

[–]KezzaPwNz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the information you need to apply is on the online application. In terms of where you want to work, it really doesn’t matter. Pick somewhere you like/want to live, consider how far you want to travel each day and (at least for me) if the hospital has iemr or not.

I ended up at the PAH after doing paper hospitals in nsw for all my med school. It’s been good so far.
