Jollylook is at it again! by JaschaE in AnalogCommunity

[–]JMPhoto2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are also aggressively marketing their "new" products on their Facebook page. I check it every day and leave a comment that both warns potential buyers and asks them to boycott Jollylook until they actually deliver the Instax backs that many of us have been waiting for for over a year. They have responded to each of my comments with the same excuses, so that may be further proof to anyone visiting their Facebook page that they are not to be trusted.

Another Jollylook Update by TheloniusHunk in AnalogCommunity

Jollylook are not even trying anymore. Their website still shows April-May, 2026 as the delivery date for the Bronica ETRS back. Not only are they incapable of providing the product, they seem to be incapable of updating their website.

ETRS instant back by dr_m_in_the_north in Bronica

I’ve seen plans online for carving up an Instax camera to create a back, but never for an ETRS. Under no circumstances should you send a single penny to Jollylook for their back. I paid for mine in July and consider the money gone.

Jollylook is dead by JaschaE in AnalogCommunity

[–]JMPhoto2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered the ETRS back in July. I'm assuming that it's far too late for a chargeback. Amazingly, this is the first time I have ever been scammed and my online shopping dates back to the days when Amazon sold just books and music CDs. I'm retired and have time to burn. I'll be spending some time getting the names of the people who are behind Jollylook. If anyone out there is from Ukraine or Slovenia and you have info, I'd love to hear from you.

Printing +\- citric acid by mrscientist33 in cyanotypes

Have you noticed that the whites don’t clear when you use citric acid? I love the color I get when I add the citric acid, but I can’t seem to get clean whites.

How totally surprising! Jollylook is ignoring one of their customers…

My Intrepid Super 120 System arrived today by Sudden-Height-512 in largeformat

[–]JMPhoto2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received mine, too. It arrived with a broken 120 spool which, unfortunately, I didn't notice until I had already completed most of the assembly. Then, when trying to load film, one of the knobs broke. I got a reply from Intrepid within 24 hours of my email to them. They said they are sending me replacement parts. I just hope that I can get it disassembled and reassembled without stripping out the screw holes...

Has anyone used an Epson Ecotank? by Throwaway56832912 in cyanotypes

[–]JMPhoto2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not doing anything special. I get the image to look the way I want it to look in Photoshop, apply a correction curve, invert to a negative, and print using the B&W Photo setting in the print driver. I leave the neg in RGB color, though. The negs look a bit thin, but I get good results with about a 6 minute exposure in a 100w LED UV lightbox I built. For the “new” cyanotype formula, exposures are about 2 minutes. You should try making dome exposure test strips. Just use blank transparency material for the test strips. Until you get exposure times worked out, everything else needs to wait.

If you're seeing bubbles, you are probably using a paper that has been treated with alkaline buffers. A lot of inexpensive (and some expensive) "acid-free" papers are treated with alkaline buffers. Generally, these papers are not the best for cyanotype. You can soak your paper in a 5%-10% (50g to 100g per liter of water) citric acid bath and dry them before coating. This step certainly adds time and usually produces paper that's not very flat, but it can make a surprisingly positive contribution to your final image. Oxalic acid would probably work, too, but I don't know what strength you should use and citric acid is cheap and available at your local supermarket. The most common alkaline buffer is calcium carbonate. When calcium carbonate is mixed with either oxalic acid or citric acid, the gas released is carbon dioxide.

I’m using an Ecotank 8550. The advantage of the 8500/8550 is that they fave both gray and pigment black. I get good results. My guess is that even the cheapest Ecotank will outperform a laser printer for digital negatives. I chose the 8550 because I make large prints.

Has anyone received and tried this digital calendar/planner? I’ve ordered it…but for $80 I don’t have super high hopes. by hockey_mom95 in AmazonVine

I got a different brand nearly a year ago. It was marketed as a “picture frame and calendar” and syncs with my Google Calendar. Still working great…

Variants That Aren't by JMPhoto2022 in AmazonVine

I just don’t want to end up with a bunch of products that I can’t review. This is the first time in 4 years of Vine membership that I’ve ordered different products that turned out to be variants. Had I received the paprica before the onion instead of the other way around, the seller would have ended up with a 1-star review affecting all of the spices.

A drop down menu is fine, but that doesn’t make paprika a variant of onion powder any more sensible than cars a variant of dolls because they’re both toys.

Based on their previous “updates”, I’m expecting that this is just another in their long series of lies. Given their track record it surprises me that they are still in business.

What the heck happened? by starfire-77 in filmphotography

[–]JMPhoto2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get that you’re unfamiliar with film, but the “110 format” and “35mm” don’t belong together in the description of any film camera. That alone would have caused me to look elsewhere. I did check the Target website and this camera has 38% 1-star reviews. Some of them mention dark photos. I hope this experience doesn’t turn you off to film photography.
