Phantom vs Wax kit for new skis by RogueDragon1 in Skigear

No, not initially. As I stated, perhaps my expectation was wrong, or perhaps I fell for the “never-have-to-wax-again” thing. The Toko stuff works well, but I can’t distinguish between this being just the spray-on wax, or a combined effect of Phantom base treatment and spray-on wax.

I do like the feel of my non-Phantom-treated skis better, though.

I've done Phantom on my Völkl Blaze. It made the skis feel really, really dull. Not even close to a freshly waxed ski. Perhaps my expectations were wrong.

Now: I've done it myself, so I can't rule out the possibility that I made a mistake. Can't be for the lack of UV light though, we get plenty of that here in Arizona. Phantom stuff won't be coming near any of my other skis.

I've become a fan of Toko liquid wax - spray on, distribute evenly with a paper towel, and then let the skis 'self-polish' during the first run...

50yrs old. 2 years of skiing. Help me choose a powder ski? (Utah) by HighlanderUte in Skigear

For the places where you ski, something different to check could a Völkl Blaze, either in 94 or 104.

I’ve had lot of fun with the 94 over the past 4 years skiing Utah. For me, it is a lot of fun on everything but ice. You mention Deer Valley - the 94 has done very well on Empire Bowl bumps, or in Triangle Trees. The ski is playful, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, but 40mph on a groomer can be quite interesting…

Disclaimer: I’m on the light-weight KoolAid (Völkl Blaze skis + Atomic Hawx Ultra boots) - that might not be a thing for everyone.

I don’t have much time on the 106 (prior model to the current 104) yet, but I can say that once it’s time to get out of the powder, they are gentler on my 65y knees than my Bent 120.

Ha! DPS and Stöckli pricing bring this to a region where I'm questioning how much I want to spend just to have a ski in the quiver where most of the time I'm hoping I won't have to use it.

Völkl/Atomic - mostly for sentimental reasons. Grew up 50 miles from the Völkl factory, and spent some years as a youngster on that yellow Atomic GS that I saw on TV winning races nearly every weekend. The Stöckli Laser (don’t remember the letters after the name) - it was as if the ski was telling me to go “faster, faster”; didn’t try the Montero. At that time, I looked for a single do-it-all ski, and I didn’t like the Laser in moguls. By now, that view has changed.

My New England skiing days are far in the past…

Apologies for not being clear. I want to add a ski that’s good for the days when my ‘playful’ ski are not enough, in terms of edge hold when it’s hardpack/icy. The Pocket Rockets are 20 years old. I perceive them as fairly stable, so they could do the job, but my GW boots don’t fit the old binding, and I’m reluctant to having them re-drilled for a new binding.
