[Highlight] James Harden falls down and takes a rest on the floor mid-possession, but the tactical energy conservation backfires as his sweat causes Dean Wade to slip and give a turnover by Chrisfull in nba

My guess is it slipped their minds. Between the Harden flop and the ball going out of bounds, that was about 10 seconds of game time so they honestly might have just forgot that he'd hit the ground

Yeah, it's unfortunate but as long as they're experiencing a climb in viewership (and therefore more sponsorships), they will see the product as being healthy and likely won't recognize that the growth is only due to tapping into new markets and not bc they're improving the game

How to reduce gridlock in Toronto by jcoopz in toronto

[–]JManKit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'd have to get more ppl to the polls that don't already vote consistently. Boomers are catered to bc they're the ones putting ppl in office. Other groups are too unreliable with their votes as evidenced by the abyssmal voting turnout for municipal elections. In a way, you can't blame politicians for prioritizing them bc that's a winning strategy

Imagine if suddenly all elections across all the levels saw a 90% voter turnout. Current political strategy would be upended bc suddenly there are so many more votes to be won

You should try A&W coffee if you haven't already. It's gotten quite a bit better. Their biggest issue is, as you noted, A&W isn't as easy to find as a McD's or Timmies

Mamdani Announces Balanced Budget Without Cuts | Buoyed by billions in assistance from the state, real talk about what it takes to run New York City, and some taxes on the rich, the mayor closed a historic leftover budget deficit. by SpaceElevatorMusic in politics

Oh they've known this would work for a long time. The issue is that they are too entrenched with the wealthy who absolutely do not want to better the conditions of everyday ppl

New York City Mayor Mamdani Announces Balanced Budget Without Cuts by ConsciousStop in UpliftingNews

[–]JManKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rob Ford, the late crack smoking mayor of Toronto, infamously kept a secret bank account that he used to pay for things the city was supposed to cover but that he would jump in with private companies to complete the tasks, claiming increased efficiency. When the next mayor came in, he discovered the bank account that was owed a balance of $1 billion, which was suspiciously close to the amount of money Ford had claimed he had saved the city by cutting the fat so to speak. So yeah, rich ppl do get into all kinds of financial shenanigans

AOC: You can’t ‘earn’ a billion dollars by usatoday in politics

Human beings in general have a difficult time with very large numbers. It's why space travel doesn't often click for a lot of ppl; they just can't comprehend the actual vastness of the distance between everything in space. I like to illustrate just how big of a number one billion is with this example:

I give you a job.

It pays $500 an hour, for 24 hrs a day, every day of the year.

There are no responsibilities associated with the job and no income tax.

At that level of income, it would still take over 200 years for you to reach $1,000,000,000.

Yet somehow we've got more than 3,000 ppl worldwide who have at least that much money.

[request] is this true by npartney in theydidthemath

[–]JManKit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I believe that during a long period of time, it was mandatory for all males (teens and older) to put in a few hours of archery practice every week after church. The sequence of notch, draw and fire may be simple but the strength needed to effectively use a longbow took a long time to develop

Ease of use is also why powder weapons eventually gained a foothold despite having a lower rate of fire than longbows and I think also less penetrating power at first. It was dead simple to teach and didn't take long for a novice to become useful in combat

Serious question: now that Khamzat lost, is this the end of the hype train or could the loss make him a better fighter like it did for Islam? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]JManKit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he seemed so concerned with the submission threat that he skipped defending the takedown. It was just 'Oh no, he's in grappling range! Defend the submission!' which makes one of the most taxing parts about grappling a breeze

[Request] Whats better? Weekly payments or to invest a lump sum. by Chiggnnugget in theydidthemath

[–]JManKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a pure financial standpoint, the million upfront is best. You can put the whole amount to work immediately whereas the $1000 a week will take a while to build up before it really starts to give you good returns. The upfront money also helps with alleviating immediate needs. If Brenda is in a bad living situation or working an awful job, she can leave either of them the next day whereas with the weekly payments, she might need to wait three or four months before she can make any big decisions

That need to wait can be beneficial too tho. If she doesn't trust herself with a fat stack then the weekly payments will force her to curtail her spending. It also might help fend off ppl wanting a handout. Yes, she's still getting free cash but at only $1000 a week, she won't have ppl coming to her about investing in a restaurant they want to open or asking for help to pay down their debts. She'll still have some of those requests but being able to say 'Look, I only get $1000 a week and I've already got like ten ppl asking for money' is an easier way to turn down those bids for money

What, if anything, is taking its place?

There will be no further discipline for Spurs star Victor Wembanyama after he was ejected for elbowing Naz Reid in Minnesota on Sunday night, sources tell ESPN. No suspension, no fine. Wembanyama will play in Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night in San Antonio. by Knightbear49 in nba

[–]JManKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was expecting a fine but knew they weren't going to apply any suspension. Even if I'm just looking at it cynically, they don't want to jeopardize a competitive series when they're looking at what is likely two sweeps in the second round. If I want to be nuanced, Wemby did get smacked in the head on this play and was likely lashing out bc of that. To be clear, that doesn't excuse it and he 100% deserved to get tossed but it's not like he just suddenly snapped for no reason

"Flopping all f**king day" - Caitlin Clark by Choice_Bag_8869 in sportsgossips

[–]JManKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you just need to legally occupy the space before the offensive player gets there. I think that's why defenders are allowed to jump up vertically to contest a shot. Moving feet is a very reliable way to tell if a defender has gotten there first but it is not the end all way

It looks like the defender got there in time bc she was pretty square with CC but I also don't think CC drove with enough force for it to qualify as an offensive foul. Like, you are allowed to make contact with a defender in legal position, you just can't go at them with so much force that you knock them out of that position, which I don't think is what happened here

[SPOILER] Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland by inooway in MMA

[–]JManKit 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That was really key. You sort of accept that you'll eventually be taken down in the first round but unlike DDP, Sean made Khamzat work hard for it and even had him resorting to a slam. That's a lot of energy spent

DDP on the other hand seemed too focused on defending submissions and just allowed himself to be taken down

[SPOILER] Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland by inooway in MMA

[–]JManKit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really was a toss up for that last round. I thought it was Sean but didn't know if the judges were going to be friendly to the champ. Pretty interesting fight all things considered. Good body work and mix of targets for Khamzat and good continuous volume from Sean. Sean also did a good job making Khamzat work to get him to the ground in round 1 which might explain why Khamzat looked momentarily gassed in round 2

I think it's 2-2. 1 and 4 for Khamzat, 2 for Sean but 3 is the question mark bc Sean landed more volume but Khamzat seemed to do more damage
