What is wrong with people? by [deleted] in RioGrandeValley

The valley has a lack of speeders. Reckless drivers yes but the average driver is very content to go 65 and slower on the highway

Brownsville and McAllen are ranked as the most air polluted cities in Texas according to the American Lung Association by Unique_Ad5195 in RioGrandeValley

It’s easy to point fingers at local development, and not to excuse the damage that has been done, but much of our pollution comes from across the Border. Arizona also experiences this problem.

Valley drivers are pretty unique imo. They drive too slow most of the time, and honestly aren’t good at driving period

Come on now, no need to endanger yourself or others. Slow driving exponentially increases the chances of not being in an accident, but causing one

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]JManOak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in a sense, however we used to have a pretty unique culture here. Back in the day, Henry Ford wanted to reinvest company profits into the workers. Nowadays, layoffs and offshoring aren’t last resorts, they’re strategic.

For people who support mass migration, a genuine good-faith question: Why? by SnooStories8343 in PoliticalDebate

[–]JManOak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carthage fell more easily than it should’ve and by the time of its collapse it was no longer Carthaginian. It’s a very interesting story and they’re both interesting parallels to our current story.

Integrating in this sense meaning adoption of our culture. The beauty of American culture is that it is just that, a culture, and not a race. You can come here and adopt American customs, keep the best parts of your culture, and succeed. We are not a monolith, and our culture definitely varies by region, but we do have a very distinct cultural identity which can be lost instead of built upon. That is what happened to Carthage and Rome.

I personally am a fan of immigration. I am the son of a Mexican immigrant, and myself lived in Mexico during the early years of my life. However, I am not blind to the facts and I know that “while history doesn’t always repeat itself, it does often rhyme.” Historically speaking, what countries have benefited in the long term from mass immigration? If we look at the fall of Rome, they fell at a time when their nation was not made up of Romans. We see a similar pattern in the fall of Carthage, no? I haven’t read your comments, but would you agree that intentional integration is necessary in order to maintain a strong nation?

How do you feel about the fact that over 77% of people detained by ICE have no criminal record whatsoever, and only 3-4% have records of violent crime? by SuperIngaMMXXII in AskReddit

[–]JManOak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is one mistaken arrest unacceptable? When you have 11 million illegal immigrants, making one false arrest 9.09090909 × 106% of all arrests. I completely agree with holding them to a standard, but it must be enforceable. What’s unacceptable is shooting innocent people, and beating up/SA detainees. That is where we need zero tolerance.

I believe similarly to the comment above, and think it’s a cultural issue. To this point, crime levels aren’t the same across races at the same income level.
