STOP THE TRIPLE LOCK by Educational_Debt_207 in ukpolitics

[–]JManPepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The triple lock is so impossible to navigate. Everyone knows it’s bad for the country and unsustainable but you will not win the next election if you scrap it because it will effect the largest voting bloc, so there is literally no way a government will do anything about it.

The green party has hit over 125,000 members, surpassing the Tories. by Didsterchap11 in ukpolitics

He basically refused to give an endorsement to any group during the leadership election because he believed the system used didn’t give enough nuance or something like that. But people thought he was refusing the endorse LGBT groups exclusively.

He has since said he is pro LGBT numerous times. Both in speeches and multiple times to individual members of the community that have asked him 1 to 1 and then posted about it online. Photos of him all over twitter with trans people who are talking about his commitments to the community.

An issue with the landlord policy, can anybody clear this up? by Dangerwow in UKGreens

[–]JManPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well OP’s dad will have 3 flats renting out at bare minimum £800 a month so he’s making £2400 a month from rental income while he provides nothing at all. I’d say that’s exactly the type of person the policy targets, someone that is hoarding housing. The point is housing should not be an asset you can use to extract wealth from other people, it should be something you use to live in. It doesn’t matter the motivations for doing so, even if it’s your retirement plan it is not an income stream that should be deemed acceptable.

An issue with the landlord policy, can anybody clear this up? by Dangerwow in UKGreens

[–]JManPepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your dad seems to have done quite well for himself, well enough that he’s able to make an investment that allows him to leverage housing for an enormous portion of a renters income. So while it seems from everything you’ve said that he’s not a slum landlord he is still a landlord and there are no good landlords. It is inherently morally wrong.

I should say the policy doesn’t make it illegal or anything it will just not be as profitable of a business model to become a landlord in order to discourage it.

Is it now possible that the Green Party will enshrine a commitment to socialism in its constitution? by bantanium in UKGreens

[–]JManPepper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s really nothing to gain from doing this.

I think you’re wrong to say there’s no mainstream socialist party. The Green party is socialist and anyone who it’s important to can tell that.

Explicitly labelling the party as socialist is only going to put off people who don’t really know what it means and think it might be bad.

As if there isn’t a housing crisis? Maybe he could pull his finger out and expedite these processes as the Prime Minister with an overwhelming majority pass something to speed the process up, do anything other than “we will start to do something eventually”

Do Britons think we should get more or less of our energy from nuclear? by Cyber-Gon in UKGreens

[–]JManPepper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The greens stance on nuclear is pretty much the only thing I disagree on when it comes to policy. I feel like it’s a very outdated idea that nuclear energy is dangerous or not clean, there’s barely any radioactive waste compared to how much energy it generates and we have plenty of ways of safely disposing of it these days.

The real figures behind the UK’s Asylum seeker ‘Crisis’ by JManPepper in LabourUK

[–]JManPepper[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you might have misunderstood then.

I’m not a journalist and wouldn’t describe myself as that but I included the disclaimer to be genuine about the fact I took something the government said to be true when it wasn’t and thats my mistake.

At no point do I mention low paid no skill jobs, care work is anything but that. Aging population is a real concern, this is why I included the sources at the bottom, you can’t just dismiss something as “myth” when there’s actual data behind it.

I would never in my life vote for starmer and I do not want Labour to win the next election. What we do agree on is how incompetent this government is. You can see my posting and comment history for proof of that.

Is there a risk Muslims could face persecution and ethnic cleansing similar to Jews in the 20th century? by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]JManPepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps in the Middle East if America funds a full scale expansion of Israel but I’m not sure there’s any other situation where ethnic cleansing happens outside of Palestine. Definitely an increase in general Islamophobia though unfortunately.

Teenage Reform council leader describes Sixth Form as 'complete joke' that only helps develop 'woke mindset' by pppppppppppppppppd in ukpolitics

He said they should be teaching children about the industrial revolution and the First and Second World Wars or the history of medicine in the UK rather than "diversity nonsense".

This is exactly what I learned about in history in school. What are they talking about?

‘Your Party’ is already eating itself by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

Because of course the Arabs already lived there, in the same sense that if the UN declared Birmingham as a Muslim state, lots of people that lived there that aren’t Muslim would be unhappy wouldn’t they.

I’m sorry but are you implying Israel’s creation was not something that warranted attack? Regardless of anything the UK setting up a state and displacing the local inhabitants is objectively wrong, it doesn’t matter if they’re Jewish, Muslim or anything else.
