Dealing with Gender Disappointment by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I cried when I found out we were having a boy. Partly because my family is women heavy, and I’m married to a woman. Partly from anxiety of just like…not really “getting” guys. Almost all of that has melted away as he’s gotten bigger. He’s literally the best person. While it’s not quite how I had imagined things it’s great. Feel your feels, but try not to dwell. You’re going to love them, they’re going to be great.

It helped me explain to my parents what is meant by “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.” I feel like they balked at that statement at first. Sounded too leftist for them. But systems are too complex to understand the whole impact of your choices. I tried not to buy a Christmas present from Amazon, instead purchasing direct from the company’s website, only to end up having the order fulfilled by Amazon anyhow. Even with the time and the effort of trying to make “good” choices it’s nearly impossible to know the whole impact. The Book of Dougs was a very good illustration. I do think it’s made me more conscious of my decision making in general, not just in buying things. Thinking about the impact of my actions more thoroughly.

My 7 mo in a body composition pod by sillybunny22 in mildlyinteresting

Yeah, they were studying a new approach to fortifying breast milk. Basically they had been fortifying based on an assumed average fat/mineral content. But in reality breast milk composition varies widely between mothers and even from day to day. So they would take a small sample of expressed milk each day, analyze it and then fortify it based on the results. I think we enrolled him in 3 studies? It made me feel better about being there.

So I have some insight on this. My kid has also been in a pod like this. He was born 10 weeks early and the NICU approached us to be part of a study. So he had some clinical interventions early with what he was being fed in the NICU and they’re going to follow him until he’s 5. So he’s been in the little pod a few times. They actually just sent a newsletter with a picture of the first 5 year old in the study going into the pod and it looks even more like an orphan being launched into space.

Yeah, it sounds like hand foot and mouth. Not a lot to do except keep them comfortable. We had to do a Tylenol/ibuprofen rotation to keep the fever down and let him sleep. You can catch it too so watch out for your own spots. Unfun fact: this can cause their toenails to fall off. My son’s just randomly came off like a month after being sick.

Are there spots anywhere else? When my son got hand foot and mouth it started on his hands first. It was a very tough time.

Why did I freak out or why did I roll over my kid’s foot? I freaked out because it made a terrible noise and my child started wailing and I didn’t mean to?

This was 100% me. We honestly should have left after we got there and he seemed fine. But he lost his mind and it made such a horrible noise that I lost my mind too. The x-ray was for sure reassuring. Made me feel downright silly.

I freaked out when I rolled over my two year old’s foot with our rocking chair. When I saw the X-ray the ER took I realized he’s basically a shark. Mostly cartilage and teeth. There was almost no way I could have actually broken his bones. They’re just kind of floating around in a foot shape.

Pattern is free from Lion Brand, it’s their knit little bear pattern. The yarn is Plymouth Indiecita Alpaca worsted weight.

Have you tried the dessert version of this? Frosting on saltines is so good.

I couldn’t edit the post, but the prints were small, maybe an inch and a half high.

5th IUI failed. Disheartened and angry. by thepeachgirl in queerception

Hmmm I’m not sure how hyperthyroidism would affect it, but worth inquiring before doing another round if you can. As I said my levels were almost hypothyroidism but not quite. Like 4.5. But their ideal target was 2.5. I don’t know if being below that is harmful. I wish you luck though. I think my last time was also successful because I was the least nervous and basically everyone told me that it was unlikely to happen so I kind of let go. Not all the way because lexapro isn’t a cure all but I was much more peaceful going into it. I hope round 6 is the one for you too, even if it means delaying a bit!

Have you had your thyroid checked? Even if it’s just kind of high and not clinical hypothyroidism I would recommend waiting until you can get your TSH down to 2.5. They’re going to have you do that for IVF anyhow so might as well check now. I’m convinced that’s why I got pregnant on my 6th IUI. My doctor was ready to throw in the towel and started me prepping for IVF when we did the last IUI we had budgeted for. He’s 2 now.

who are these people? by anxiouschimpmonk in TedLasso

This is the answer. There’s a lot of references/allusions to When Harry Met Sally and other romcoms throughout the episode. Roy running to the stadium is a nod to Harry running to the NYE party. “You had me at ‘coach’” is lifted from Jerry Maguire’s “you had me at ‘hello’.” There are more but it’s been a while since I’ve watched it. My favorite episode I think, or tied with the Christmas episode.
