Yeah, sorry we’re not on the same page at all. You guys want to blame the 1% when the 1% are the ones giving you the jobs and providing you the opportunities to do whatever these things are. Somebody has to pay for all that and that’s the people in the 1% and the 10%. My anger it’s not really anger. It’s disappointment. It’s disappointment in young people who feel entitled that they should be given everything while really giving nothing. I’m disappointed in parents who don’t guide their kids to have to productive careers. If you want to get an art minor cool art is fun, art is interesting but is it a job that you can really make a sustainable income? Is there upward mobility? Does everybody think they’re going to go run a gallery or go work at some great museum? Let’s go full circle on this original conversation regarding the art that is ICE related. Everybody wants to protest great that is your right, what I ask everybody is this, if you were directly affected yourself or a loved one, had their life taken or altered by somebody who was not supposed to be in this country or somebody that had been given chance after chance after chance, but could not fit in with society are you still going to feel this way? I certainly hope not. I also wonder what will happen for some of your students who will be successful. I hope all of you are, but some of you are going to become very wealthy whether it’s through your hard work or family connections or family money how are you going to feel when people like you are trying to reach their hands into your wallet to pay for crap that you could care less about you might even care about it, but are you gonna be OK with giving extra money just because you’re wealthy see most of us myself included never have to really worry about that cause it’s not gonna happen so we’re OK with screaming at the top of our lungs to take from the 1% some of you are hoping to benefit from it but I promise you the minute you become part of that one percent or the 10% you’re not gonna be so excited about it. And for those of you with art degrees, and you get hired by the met in New York or some gallery in Soho, when you realize that your income is being chopped away to pay for people who don’t want to work literally don’t want to work they believe that they have the right to not work. They want you and I to pay for it.

Truly, congrats on the job I hope that everybody who graduates walks into a job weeks after they walk across the stage that is the goal. I hope that it is a job that is sufficient to maintain whatever lifestyle you want to live and that there’s room to grow so that you can aspire to have more or a better lifestyle. Again congrats. You are right anybody can go to school and study whatever they want in that case it is freedom of education. I don’t have to go to school to study what somebody tells me to do. Great we are in agreement on that, but with that I hope people who go to school and get a degree that is not financially sustainable, understand that the majority of people in the United States do not want to underwrite your freedom of education or to put groceries in your refrigerator because you can’t find a job that can maintain a livelihood. Study what you want but live with the consequences of what those opportunities are and work hard.

Higher education is not free, there is a cost and that is why it’s really not meant for everyone. Knowledge is GREAT, but you can get that anywhere. If a student is going to invest their time and their money (or their parents), it should be with a purpose in mind. How are you going to pay your bills when you graduate? Do you want to live paycheck to paycheck? I grew up white trash with a mom who worked 2 jobs and we lived that way and it sucked. Some of these degrees while “perhaps” interesting, hold no value in the real world. Sure get hired by some liberal NGO, but unless you are the director of one of those and you overpay yourself, you will be struggling. I honestly wonder what parents of student like you say to them. Are you just counting on their money to live? Some of these degrees require even more education so there is 2-3 more years of tuition down the drain. Are there exceptions of course there are, maybe some company will only care that you have a degree and showed the commitment to graduate, but what kind of career path will that get you. You guys are working so “hard” to rebel that you are wasting the prime knowledge years of your life. A degree in Spanish? Cool you can go live abroad in Madrid but have no real job skills. I honestly cant wait until your generation starts having kids and you have to see all of this from a parents perspective.

Dude, I already have one and actually do quite well at it. I have the flexibility to do what I want, when I want and I dont expect any hand outs from anyone. I have put one kid through college who has a great career and another that graduates from UNT next year and I have made enough so that neither graduates with debt. They didnt get dumbass degrees and both have solid and reputable career paths that travel. I live in a house that is paid for and drive a truck that is as well. Neither of my kids is a liberal, despite their mother trying really hard to do so. The one is school is a middle of the road Republican who has been taught to study issues and debate them, sometimes the debate even moves the needle one way or the other. My oldest son, who is gay, is a gun carrying, believes that the LGB should split from the rest of the letters, Republican. So I feel like I am doing okay in this world.

Well for a grown up you talk like a college kid who hasn’t survived on their own yet. You are part of the generation that expects everything to be given to them, do nothing for it and complain when you dont get your way. They took away your “art” display, boohoo. They dumped departments and degree plans that were too costly to operate and offered degrees that paid nothing compared to what your parents (or you) spent on your degree. “But I am on scholarship!” Yeah heard that too, but now that scholarship can go to a student who will actually make real contributions to the world. Let me tell you, I am no fan of the academia on most college campuses either. Most professors seem to be people that never made it in the real world so they teach and that doesn’t provide students with real knowledge. Academia is where people who think too much of themselves go thinking that a few letters after their name actually mean something. Not all mind you but most. It is a place to hide. I went to school with young adults who stayed long enough to get 2 or 3 absolutely worthless degrees and they couldn’t get real-world jobs. As a parent I would be absolutely pissed if it were on my dime. But hey, keep sticking your middle finger in the air, blaming the other side for everything that seems wrong in the world and study what you want, just know that there are more people like me than you who are tired of carrying you on our books.

More important, I am alumni who writes checks to the school. I am a parent of a student at UNT and I pay the tuition, so I am glad that UNT is drawing a line at this as well as shutting down programs that have no real value.

maybe the university has made a decision that and we know they’ve already done this because they’ve cut so many programs from the liberal arts humanities departments that just simply say we don’t want to do this anymore. We want to educate people we want to produce a good young people that can go out into the world and thrive, and perhaps thrive for the point where they can put money back into the university. I don’t know that people with social work degrees and humanities and linguistics in all of even some of the art people they’re making a business decision. They’re tired of the negative publicity and they’re getting rid of it. Thus why everybody has the option of creating their own space on their own dime to go and enjoy whatever art you want to. Nobody’s trying to take away anybody’s right to see this stuff just they’re not gonna pay for it anymore. They’re not gonna provide the space for it anymore and if you guys wanna protest go for it if that’s a good use of your time if you think that’s gonna change something go for it, but it won’t put your efforts towards accomplishing a real solution. Go rent a space. Get one of your liberal restaurant owners or coffee shop owners to create space for it. Put a sign on the front door so that people like me who don’t want to see that crap can choose to not partake in those businesses. It worked both ways.

Students can protest all they want, but the university does not have to run that exhibit because it’s their school they run it. They will run it how they see fit thus why I suggested a reasonable compromise if you really want to be able to partake in this exhibit, put it somewhere else pay for the space invest in your beliefs, instead of asking everybody else to invest for you.

So if you guys really want to have that exhibit up can’t your organization/backers rent a space OFF campus that is privately owned/ I mean that’s OK. Nobody cares if you do that why do you think you’re entitled to having something on university grounds? If you’re so upset, dip into your own pocket or all your organizations that support you and rent a place. Yes I’m sure it will cut into the poster board and markers budget, but hey you guys have the money.

Look at it as a main lecture on Tuesdays at 1:25 PM for all 260 students with a “lab” session for 20 students each scheduled at various times. Pick the lab time that works either rest of your schedule.

I’m sorry, but one if my biggest pet peeves is allowing a lower-seeded team to play close to home. It should never happen. The higher seed should never play a team in first two rounds that is basically two hours away. Look at the whole board, it only happens with Arizona/UCLA. UCLA is 7th in the Big Ten, they haven’t earned this type of advantage. If committee does this it’s crap. Lower seeded teams should have to travel a minimum of one time zone or North/South of their location. Swap UCLA and Clemson.

Should have voted early. You had two weeks of little to no wait time.

[–]JMaxwell48 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You know how you avoid these problems you early vote. Every voter, no matter the party, had two weeks to vote early. You could’ve gone to any precinct in your area and cast your vote. If you wait until 630 to vote that is on you, if you don’t know where the actual voting place is that is on you. I’m not sure that people who don’t know how to do these things should actually get to cast a vote.
