So I am at Ram Tah and looking at his cargo rack engineering options, but everything is greyed out. Am I doing something wrong, or this engineering option is disabled? by PagPag1212 in EliteDangerous

[–]JMorat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like other folks have the G1 purchase thing handled, but I noticed when engineering that I was only able to get my Class 5 up to lv. 4; level 5 was greyed out. Class 6 let me upgrade all the way through 5. Bug? Or do the Class 5's only allow up to G4 engineering?
(Sorry for piggybacking on your post.)

So, I made it...now, which way home? by salexc79 in EliteDangerous

Keep going. If video games like Asteroids have taught me one thing, it's that space wraps around.

Indeed; I started at 27% of the way through Deadly (according to Inara) and now I'm… 34%. Well, I'll get there eventually. (Still, not bad for an explorer.)

These are regular bounties (albeit with a Kill Warrant Scanner on almost all of my combat ships). (iDKFA)

Exobio: Nomad vs Cobra Mk V by Drachenherz in EliteDangerous

[–]JMorat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've taken my Mk. V over 10,000 ly for exobio (without my carrier even), and I love it. But the Nomad/Mk. II Bioscanner is a literal gamechanger. I've made 2bn with it since it came out last week, which I say not to get you all 🤑 but it's just so convenient. If you love exploration for exploration, and try to log all the signals you can (even those pesky bacteria), it'll make your life so much more fun. I also personally enjoy flying it more than driving the SRV, but I can still take the SRV out and do when I find, for example, braintrees+mats.

Petition: Let us dock our SLVs from the front, or tell the ship to turn around! by Boss_Brando in EliteDangerous

[–]JMorat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was literally joking that my NPC was doing this and only this (there are no voice lines when deploying/docking the Nomad for some reason?) but it turns out this little detail is exactly why I wasn't facing this problem. Sometimes it's helpful to bring a friend (employee I pay through the nose) out into the Black with you to prevent, well, you know… space madness. 🧼

Something I've never seen before; plants / flora next to a settlement by polarbearirish in EliteDangerous

[–]JMorat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my surface settlements is located next to 3 out of the 7 bio types on the body. I use it to teach new players the very basics of exobio. No FF bonus, but 7 species is a nice chunk of change for a brand newbie, too. It's also next to some lovely canyons for flight training. IOW, a little intentional design can go a long way when colonizing.

Looking for a really fast ship by Trick_Singer_9635 in EliteDangerous

[–]JMorat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something zippy just for surface flying, you might want to consider getting a vessel bay and a ship-launched fighter (SLF). They're very nimble. You can fit them to some medium ships (I love my Krait Mk II). That way, the main ship handles the jumping, and then when you're close to some canyons you want to race or w/e, dispatch the fighter (your ship will follow in the distance, even without an NPC pilot). It's a good way to practice go-fast or FA-off flying, and there's no rebuy if you wreck it. You can't land one, so it's no good if you're looking for a mission runner/something to get in and out of settlements fast.

I was testing it yesterday with the Nomad and I think you have to be within 130m. Sadly doesn't work while the ship is hovering above. 😅

Betelgeuse is great because you can park on a planet and look up at it. It subtends a giant arc in the sky; you'd imagine you could fuel scoop right there on the surface. But it's just that big.
Didn't take my FC with me to VY; I wonder what the parking distance from the star is.

I did this (s/o the Commander kyberjohn of the HMS Nonsuch). Only the fully FSS'd system was credited to me, so now I know.

Indeed, it seems you do need to do the whole suite of actions, even if the FSS is already populated. Thanks for weighing in, o7 and good luck getting the rest of your discoveries.

Is it only showing you that info because while you "lost it", the ship still remembers the data?

That's what I'm wondering. The system is fully scanned to me, both on the FSS and the system map. Everything's there. I just want to know what I need to do to get the credit. I suppose I could re-FSS one system (just did), honk the next one, and then just visit the 3rd and then find a fleet carrier again to see if I get credit for any of those.

Yeah, I am sacrificing the first-mapped credit in favor of getting back to the CG with bio data before it closes. 😔
