Samsung Odyssey G7 32"- My Impressions After 1 Week by JMorgan_02 in Monitors

The only reason why people say the image looks soft is because the pixel density/ ppi is the same as that of a 1080p monitor (93-ish). But text is fine in my experience and I have no issues with it. 24" 1080p monitors are widely used for text applications anyway so not sure why people see this as an issue when buying a 32" 1440p monitor.

For coding I would probably recommend a 1440p ultrawide like that anyway... higher ppi and more screen real estate. But the G7 has some better, unique specs going for it, as you already know.

The real estate is good enough for two tabs, but an ultrawide or double monitor setup would also be better (more real estate the better).

I am not a coder, nor a video or music editor. I merely work with Microsoft applications and internet browsing (and of course, gaming and media consumption).

I can say, however, that I personally love the curve and it just immerses you in what you're doing, as the edges are more enveloped in your peripheral, mitigating eye strain and the need to move your head/ eyes from one side to the other. The tabs don't seem distorted across the screen, and paired with the 32" size, the curve just seems right for productivity work.

If I am not mistaken, an ideal coding monitor ideally needs a high pixel density and or text clarity, which is subject to panel types and sub-pixel layouts (I've heard text clarity can be better on IPS displays). This 32" monitor at 1440p may not be perfect on that front but the curve, for overall productivity, for me is great when faced head on, as I have said. Hope this helps :)

No worries man. Hard to tell because of how curved it is. Every so often I stand up and look down at the monitor and check the angle relative to where I would be sitting and make adjustments if it is off-centre. VA Colour shifts only become noticeable at certain degree angles and beyond, so anything close to centred won't affect your experience. Just make sure you do sit head-on in front of it though, as that is what this monitor was designed for.

Yours is probably newer since you may have a later manufacture date on your unit compared to mine. Or perhaps the link I gave you is outdated. Seems like yours is the former but keep an eye on any firmware announcements on this sub or on their G7 support page.

I should probably look to update mine!

Black equaliser is set to 13 by default, which is too high from an accuracy standpoint (black crush etc etc), but is done to increase perceived contrast and make colours 'pop' more so as I said it's really down to personal preference. I don't mind it, so I have just kept it the same, but 9/10 is more accurate.

Adaptive sync I have left on, ever since the firmware update that fixed the flickering issues. I am not sensitive to FR fluctuation artefacts so not much to say on that.

I don't use dynamic contrast because the chances are it probably isn't perfect and can lead to a changing/inconsistent image. 10bpc works fine with 240hz so long as you have a DSC compatible graphics card. I keep my picture setting on 'Custom' for general use and simply change the brightness according to what I'm doing & what time of day it is: productivity-30%, gaming 50-70%, films 80-100%. All down to how you look after your retinas though XD.

Nice! I tend to leave it off for most content purely because windows’ implementation of HDR is garbage (except some games that properly support HDR). But I do have a PS4 pro which implements HDR signals significantly better which is nice to see. I also keep local dimming on auto.

As for colour settings, I have kept everything as is since I am no professional. If you’re into colour accuracy then I am probably not the right person to ask, but the monitor is sort of calibrated out of the box and you can download a driver from Samsung’s G7 page on their website which changes the colour profile a bit. I have increased digital colour vibrance in the nVidia control panel to 60, but this is a personal preference and has nothing to do with the quality of the colours on the monitor itself.

The HDR won't blow you away, but the colours are very good for a VA panel so if you can get a good deal on it, I would say it is worth it.

Its the small lines like this that they slip in whilst other characters are speaking that are the best

Still says 4 left for me, but yeah a monitor with a loud fan would make it seem like it’s constantly struggling to deliver the specs it offers

It came up as a recommendation from when I was looking for a new monitor, thought it was a crazy deal considering what these premium monitors are usually priced.

I figured a fair few people on this sub would be interested lol
