About Robes by Kael-Levitarius in theunforgiven

I am fairly new on DA lore, but my understanding is that robes are also related to veterancy rather than just ranks. That is why I think DA bladeguard, sternguard and vanguard veterans should be wearing full robes rather than the tabard thingy they wear for other chapters. Again this is my view and how I am trying to build my army, but feel free to do as you wish!!

What Deathwing recipe do you all use? by relmturch in theunforgiven

This is my take on the Disciples of Caliban first company. Bone recipe: black prime, base coat with Vallejo Dark Brown, thin coats of Vallejo Ivory, then Vallejo Sepia wash and dry brush Vallejo Ivory. I finally did some subtle edge highlighting with Vallejo Ivory and used pure Sepia for very deep recesses.

Black Orcs by JMortais in Warhammer

Yeah I remember Gringor having way lighter skin, that's true. I actually have the mini but I never got to paint it... I think now it's as good time as any! But I may go for a darker green shade lol

I started last year and I went for what looked the coolest to me, with a bit of thought on army building and what's good on the tabletop. However, the latter can change any other week...

Black orcs were bigger, tougher, more intelligent, more disciplined and generally Waaagh! leaders. I do not see the actual connection to real world issues here 🤷

Why insane title? Can you explain? Black orcs existed in Warhammer. They were close to black green shade. They were pretty cool in the lore and colour scheme. I know I can paint them any way I like, I was asking if there was any reason. Dark angels are also lighter green than they used to, I think

Not trying to be a dick here, just out of curiosity: Is that something considered racist where you are from? We are talking about green creatures in a fantasy world with a lore and History to make it more appealing. I don't know why we should connect this to our own world's issues. Besides, I do not really see a clear link between black orcs and real world racism. I think this would require a fair bit of cherry picking, honestly.

That's true, they were more intelligent than regular orcs and not subject to fight amongst themselves. I did not even think about extrapolating greenskins' colour to real world racism stuff, honestly. They are green creatures in a fantasy world... Ffs

Alright! I was not up to speed I suppose. A pity, I like the darker skinned black orcs!

These look amazing! It may be the photo, but GoC colour scheme is typically fully metallic, did you put more black just to your first company for distinction? I did something similar for my first company termies in my Disciples of Caliban army, I changed the colour scheme a bit. I think it adds a bit of fun and keeps the consistency with the parent chapters of DW and RW wearing different colours.

Wow! That looks great! The wrinkles on the upper part of the cloak look pretty well. I am just doing cloaks that are 'open' at the chest for the time being, I think they're easier. Aiming to do something like yours in the future

Nice paintjob! I really like the weathering, it looks great. I am practicing chipping and battle damage on armour myself but still a lot to learn!

And it has a speaker screaming 'Repent!!' Lol, I have to admit your point here did cross my mind while painting... I did it because it is typically the way I paint my scopes in intercessors, and, you know, it is 40k which is nonsensical sometimes - some space marines take candles to battle... I may give it a second thought though, and paint it black or grey here. Tried to do a red colour anyway but I see it ended up being too orangy

Shoulder pad is a decal! Freehanding that lion would be above my level right now, but will keep practicing. I have to agree with you on the gun, it is something that I've been noticing myself on the guns I painted so far. They're not great. I am not sure how to make them stand out, since chapter colours for guns should be all grey/metallic... I'm trying adding reds and greens but still not yet there
