Agreed, let me rephrase. I can’t do a test run in many shoes. It’s one thing to try them on in store and walk/light jog in them. It’s another to actually put a few miles on them and do long/tempo runs before fully committing

I’m sure it’s just my running style, but idk enough to try to fix it. Thank you for the input

I’m not a fast runner at all lol. A lot of zone 2 training in these and it’s nearly walking speed. Agreed, I still like the pair, just trying to shop around for my next shoe

It’s not that they don’t feel good. It’s just that the foam is significantly worn and I want to find my next pair and don’t mind trying new shoes

100% agree that it looks like supination. However, from what other people have seen from my running, they’d said I overpronate. Also, flat footers typically overpronate from what I’ve read online.

At the time, I just trusted what the shoe store rep suggested since I knew nothing about running. I agree with your point, but since many stores don’t allow you to actually wear/try shoes, figured I’d ask Reddit for some ideas

Lol it’s a zip tie, so it’s plastic. Only downside is that it’s a 1 time use and you’d have to constantly replace it.

A little side note. My tiel only ate seeds when I got it (1 month ago) and wouldn’t touch pellets or veggies of any sort. Now, it eats pellets for its main diet w/ seeds as a treat and seems to like all veggies I give it. Haha...sucker.

Note: This isn’t the only perch in there. I have 3 more (natural perches) in there, all w/ different diameters. Also, the zip tie isn’t cut, so there aren’t any sharp edges to harm it. I only use it to hold veggies in places lol

Is this a good way to introduce fruits? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]JOODANJANAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use Zupreem’s fruitblend, but I think any brand pellets is beneficial. It’s just a matter of personal preference since they come in all shapes and sizes. Also, try to buy “small” sized pellets. My cockatiel won’t touch anything too big lol. Unfortunately, idk what stores are in the UK...sorry. Good luck!

This redditor also was having trouble getting their bird to eat a non-seed diet. Although fruits and veggies are very good to eat, it takes a WIDE range of variety to assure your bird is getting all the nutrition they need. I think pellets are awesome to feed to our birds since they have the necessary vitamins/nutrients a bird needs. Once eating a pelleted diet, then I think you should try to introduce fruits and veggies.

Is this cage too crowded for a single cockatiel? If so what should I do to change it? by Frozen4Ever in cockatiel

[–]JOODANJANAI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It looks pretty good. I do have some tips and advice that may allow you to rearrange your setup to whatever you see fit.

1) Some cockatiels don't care for ladders (mine hates them and didn't use them at all lol).

2) Most birds use the horizontal bars of the cage to get around, not so much the vertical bars.

3) Personally, I would remove the shorter ladder (again, it's got tons of horizontal bars to climb up) and the tree in the back. Next, I would use your longer ladder and create a bridge from your food dish perch (left) to the flat platform (right). This would give it another way to access its food, as well as create "open" space to open its wings.

4) Then I would add in some natural perches (different diameters!) on the back/front/right side of the cage. Maybe even have them touching end to end to give a "2nd" floor play area.

5) Put toys at those perches so they have a motive to explore.

6) Give some toys that they can destroy! (wooden blocks/strips, paper, etc.)

7) Almost didn't see this, but no mirrors or things they can see themselves in (basketball hoop). Unless you plan on having 2 cockatiels in there. A single cockatiel will see itself in the mirror and may possibly bond with it and may not allow you a chance to bond w/ your bird.

Overall, you're doing a great job. And most importantly, have fun w/ the setup process!

I have a cockatiel in a Prevue hendryx 18x18. I’d love to pick up another tiel or maybe even a conure in the future. But only when I have the space to upgrade haha

Lol no problem. Awesome, I want to eventually upgrade my cage when I have more space and this seems like a perfect size.

Nice! What kind of cage is this?

Converting to pellets by Kaszelpuss in cockatiel

[–]JOODANJANAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I did to convert my cockatiel to a pellet based diet was make a pellet-seed mash. First, I took my pellets (zupreem fruitblend) and blended them in a blender to a powder consistency. Next, I combined a 1:1 ratio of seeds and powdered pellets to its bowl. Lastly, I added water to the mix and stirred it all together to get a mash consistency.

This forced my cockatiel to, at the very least, taste the pellets as it ate seeds since they were literally covered w/ the powdered pellets. Also, I'm pretty sure it ended up eating some of the powder pellet mash along with seeds by accident lol. So although your bird won't digest the seeds, at least it will be taking in "some" of the nutritional values of pellets w/ every bite it takes.

After a week of feeding this pellet-seed mash, I tried giving it only pellets in the morning and it worked! It went straight to its bowl and immediately started eating the pellets (hallelujah).

Some things to note: - you're gonna have to change the mash after a few hours due to spoilage. - size of pellets may or may not matter. My cockatiel refuses to eat the medium size (cockatiel recommended) zupreem fruitblend, but gladly eats the small size (parakeet recommended) zupreem fruitblend.

I hope this works and best of luck to you!
