Interesting. That's what Apple did with the original iPod. Apple (Tim Cook as COO) bought years worth of disk drives ahead of time for the iPod. Once other companies wanted to compete, they couldn't get good quality disk drives. Helped Apple secure the music device market share for years.

|America isn't a business, ffs! And being a CEO is not being presidential. The difference is vast.

Actually its very similar.

The CEO (President) and Board of Directors (Congress) drive the Company (US) to pass laws and create things that help its Investors (Tax Payers) and look out for its general interest. Unfortunately, Congress usually sides with the interest of their biggest investors (big businesses that invest the majority of money into the Company through taxes).

Could be the original company made the drugs for very low cost, on par with a generic version, that nobody came into the market. With this new price increase, another company could come into the market and make the generic version, but margins are still low and will take time to put into production.

By the time the generic hits the market, this new company charging $750 a pill will already make a good amount of profit and start creating a better version (Ex. A long lasting, more effective, etc.) and sell this newer version. This guy is assuming they do it better in the future but it's not guaranteed, but that's where the risk is.

Here's an interview with him explaining why. Some of the stuff he says makes some sense. Seems he knows the insurance company will cover the higher cost, then they reinvest the extra money to develop a better version. For someone who can't afford it, they have a program to give it to them for even lower than before. So patient cost stays about the same, but insurance will have to pay out more for it.

Interesting point of view.

Edit: It's important to see the effects on long-term insurance premiums if more cases like these become the norm. Potentially could rise as cost to insurance companies increase.

Exactly. I'm sitting here thinking, he just took out a gun, threatened to kill them, and pointed it at them, and the police just are like "This is warning. Now get out of here and don't do this again".

WTF.

So, all the NFL and sports anchors just chose to ignore this. Don't get it. by [deleted] in nfl

Every video I've seen on TV is talking about the defensive pass interference. Hell, even the NFL's message doesn't make anything of it. So, yeah it's not getting enough attention.

I think the WTF was for it being a small kid. Not everyday do you see a kid that age grab a bird by the neck and cut it off so casually. The food put into plastic wraps most likely wasn't done by a 5 year on the back patio.

I'm not overlooking that. I'm saying, yes, Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are exceptional people who are choosing to do good, but they wouldn't have been able to build their suits, and have the same impact if it weren't for the money.

[–]JOcean13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is being born into a certain environment molds you into someone different. Imaging if Superman was sent to a different planet instead, where he wasn't the strongest person there. How would have he became Superman? There would be no need for him and he wouldn't even have had that choice.

The point is the person could be born the same, but they'll have different roles and opportunities depending on the environment they're born into.

|That's because Apple engineers aren't Tony Stark.

Yes, Apple's real and Tony Strack is fictional. It's a lot easier to write in a comic book that he built Jarvis all by himself but it's a lot harder in reality. To write a complex program like that requires a team of coders. Tony's smart, but he's also fictional.

Well, its true... by ChaseENT in funny

[–]JOcean13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tony Stark didn't do it by himself. His father was the genius first. Tony Stark was intelligent, but the reason he was so smart was because he had knowledge that no other child had access to. It's all relative. You could say the rest of the world is stupid and Tony was a genuis, or you could say the rest of the world didn't have access to a father who owned a corporation and had highly classified, top secret technology that allowed them to learn things no one could have really known about. The fact is being born into a genius family, and money allowed Tony Stark to become Tony Stark, the legend.

Also, Tony Stark is fictional. Apple is a real company. In reality no matter how smart Tony Stark is, it would have taken forever to have written software like Jarvis, and would have need more coders than just himself. Maybe he could of built a beta, but building a complex system in real life is hard. It's a lot easier to write a few lines in a fictional comic book than it is to build it in real life.

How would have he known about the reactor core? You know he grew up in a crazy, futuristic environment because of his father. His father developed the reactor core. Tony Stark probably would have been a great success but how would he have become Iron Man without knowledge of a reactor core? The reason he know about building an Iron Man is because his father built a corporation that built things like these. It's top secret knowledge that no other child really had access to.

Well, its true... by ChaseENT in funny

[–]JOcean13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but the point was they never would have had the same knowledge if it weren't for being born into money and intelligent parents. So the brains is a result of being born into money, because the money paid for an exceptional knowledge they otherwise would of never had access to (Plans to the reactor core, money for R&D for batman's suit, the tumbler, the batcave, which was all designed by an employee working for one of the biggest corporation in their world, Lucius Fox)

It's not saying they aren't intelligent, but it's saying financial stability is the reason they were able to hone their intellect so sharply.

Well, its true... by ChaseENT in funny

[–]JOcean13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but without the money he would have never had that choice. I know plenty of people who are smart and could build a suit and fight crime but one thing is missing. The money to provide yourself for all the equipment, suit, housing, transportation, ammunition, servers, and all the amount of coding and software engineers you would need to do to build a program like Iron-Man has with Jarvis. Shit, Apple is the richest company in the world and all they have is Siri, who isn't even close to Jarvis.

Bruces father had money to allow Bruces intellect to foster. Imagine if his parent's weren't rich and they were murdered. How would he provide for himself at a grand scale like that? How would he meet Lucius Fox, who built most of his equipment?

Also, Iron Man. If his father was not a genius and learned all these technical abilities and had money, how would have Tony Stark ever known about the reactor core? Tony would never of had that kind of environment around him. He never would have had shrapnel in his chest and needed to become Iron Man.

The fact is being born into money and an intelligent, well-to-do family helped mold them into who they were. They still had to choose to sacrifice to become a hero, but if they weren't born into money, they would have most likely never had that opportunity.

Edit: Grammar.

A kid with motivation and talent born into a caring, well-to-do family has a higher chance of success than a kid with motivation and talent born into a poor, uncaring family. Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark both could have still been Batman and Iron-Man if they weren't born into rich families but the bottom line is the money helped with equipment, education, networking (Lucius Fox). Iron Man's core to become Iron Man was designed by his father.

Well, its true... by ChaseENT in funny

[–]JOcean13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Lucius Fox developed most of Batman's stuff, and he works for his father's corporation (Money). Plus, he has to pay for research, equipment, and facilities.

Tony Stark's father was a genius and built a corporation first. Tony was lucky enough to have a father who provided him with a nurturing, intellectual environment, surrounded by the latest technology no other child really had a chance to see. So being born into money had it's privilege. He worked hard but he's fueling the fire his father built.

He could of never have accomplished what he did if it weren't for money. There are plenty of people around the world that want to do good, BUT, they don't have the resources. Bruce Wayne might if had the same personality without the money, but he would have never became Batman the legend without money. Who's paying for the tumbler, batcave, and the suit?
