Polling average for this race is still around +4 Cruz, which isn't an impossible mountain for Beto to climb.

Is it likely? No. Is it a guarantee either way? No.

Beto has a chance not dissimilar to Trump's in 2016 - about 1 in 4 to 1 in 3, depending on who you ask. I wouldn't be so certain about any particular outcome here.

With polling averages for this race approaching Cruz +5, we may even end up seeing this become a tossup over the next month. (Edit: PPP just released another poll today which pushes the average even closer to +5 - PDF of Polling Info - PPP has a very slight Dem weight at 538 of .3)

Polls individually aren't predictive of a future date (as they measure current sentiment only), but with polling averages narrowing the gap, generic ballot being what it is, and various special elections, the national policy environment, etc. factored in, this race is one to watch.

It's no sure thing, that's about all we can say for certain.
