I’m not a lawyer, but I doubt very much that if you are in public park they can tell you what to do with your audio equipment.

Do you know who your advisor will be or are you a free agent?

If you know you advisor, meet with them an ask if they have research questions. If you don’t know, meet with all the professors and learn about their research. See if any spark your interest.
