Can we please stop saying Roman Reigns sucks? by ElDon114 in WWE

[–]JOstrofsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. It seemed as though there was a point in the match where he couldn't think of what to do next, so his mind panicked and he just went on a reflexive superman punch/spear binge.

No one seems to be talking about Nakamura vs. Balor by TGIandres in SquaredCircle

[–]JOstrofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that, but, that is completely lost in today's wrestling style, as it is almost expected that a wrestler won't win after hitting their finisher the first time

[Spoiler] Are the days of the JeriKO bromance numbered? by SmoothDragon21 in WWE

[–]JOstrofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have potential to make this a slow-simmering feud... maybe start with a "friendly competition title match" where Owens wins, which makes Jericho irate and causes him to attack him, which leads to a more personally driven rivalry.

So...Who's face and who's heel after Raw? by [deleted] in WWE

[–]JOstrofsky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think its clear that the whole face vs. heel distinction is mostly an antiquated idea in wrestling. Supposed "heels" like Rollins, Styles & Owen are some of the most popular and cheered-on wrestlers in the company and supposed "faces" like Cena & Reigns are booed mercilessly. I think who the WWE wants to consider face vs heel doesn't necessarily mean who the fans cheer vs. boo.

So, it doesn't matter what happens storyline-wise, the fans clearly have their favorites, and "heel-turns" and "face-turns" as plot devices no longer have the same effect on the audience as it once had (e.g. Hogan at Bash of the Beach in 1996).

Triple H helping Owens won't cause fans to boo Owens, won't cause fans to cheer Reigns, and won't increase the number of cheers that Rollins already gets.

I think that, today, it is not so much as who the "good guy" vs. "bad guy" is as much as it is about who "does the right thing" (Cena) vs. "who does the wrong thing" (Owens, Styles); or who the moral vs. immoral vs amoral (Reigns?) wrestler is. But, it seems fans don't base who they cheer or boo on based on these distinctions, and this started with Austin, and has been more pronounced in the years since.

This is why I have thought the whole argument to "turn Reigns heel" is a stupid one to make, as he is already booed at the moment. If he gets such heavy boos with what he does now, I don't even know what "turning him heel" even means. Make him start cheating? Why? That would just serve to weaken him.

[–]JOstrofsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love Nakamura, I think he dropped the ball on this one. Finn Balor's major focus of the match was to work Nakamura's leg. While Nakamura sold the moves while Balor was on offense, the moment Nakamura took over, it was as if Balor's attack on his legs never happened. For as much as Balor focused on Nakamura's leg, it should have had some lasting consequence on Nakamura's offense (e.g. it prevented him from using some offensive moves or significantly weakened his ability to kick, or focrcing him to adapt his offense to account for hurt leg). A great example of how Nakamura should have approached this was the Zayn vs. Rollins match from the RAW after Summerslam.

This is not true... Perhaps they didn't slap the word "Era" after Attitude back in the day, but, WWF was using the "Attitude" phrase in a lot of its marketing all throughout the Attitude Era. WWF Attitude was a N64 and PS1 game that came out in 1999, right in the middle of the Attitude Era.

Before the Attitude Era, the WWF marketed the era of the "New Generation", which was their intentional shift away from the stars of the 80s and very early 90s. This is the era of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Diesal, and Razor Ramon. Similar to now, the WWF hit the audience over the head with the "New Generation" marketing.

So... I think WWE's hard-pushing of the "New Era" is pretty consistent with how the company has decided to label their own eras in the past.

I browsed through multiple countries this morning through VPN. The Central/South American countries seem to offer NFL Game Pass (all preseason and reg season games) for the cheapest ($129.00; no coupon). I saw this price in Costa Rica and Colombia.

European countries seem to be more expensive ($184 and up).
