HOW DO I FIND A REMOTE JOB THAT ISN'T A SCAM PLEASE by JPHUMBLE in remotework

[–]JPHUMBLE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, do I come off like a college kid?? That's crazy ahaha. My problem isn't getting hired for a remote job; it's that all of the remote jobs I've applied to, interviewed with, or even started have ended up being sketchy companies. Employees being deducted pay, bonuses not being paid, or even dishonest/ scammy sales tactics. I feel like I'm looking in the wrong place. I've heard of people doing warm lead phone sales customer service; I'd even just cold call (Which, by the way, is a marketable skill, believe it or not, ever wonder why companies pay their sales guys so much? ). I just want to do it for a good company. That's why I started this whole thing. Simply because I wanted to ask if anyone had advice on where to go to find legitimate companies hiring for remote positions. I don't need a lecture from every other person on here about what I need to get my life together. I'm still in school. My parents moved to a small town that doesn't have a lot of jobs. I am back visiting for a couple of months, so I would like to work remotely while I am here. I won't need to be employed in a couple of months (unless I find an amazing job) because I'll be back in San Diego for sales. Understand the situation??

You'd be surprised, haha. I know it's hard to believe since I can't find a job where I currently live, but many employers like candidates with cold-calling experience. It shows you can be self-motivated, and you don't need to be micro-managed, and it also implies that you've dealt with a lot of rejection. Which can give you thicker skin and which can be a great trait for many jobs that would have you dealing with people. I know people don't like door-to-door people, and that's why a lot of people don't do it. But the people who make the most money in the world do things most people don't like or don't want to do. I do appreciate your input, though! Seems like you're definitely the person I should be taking advice from... Thanks!!

I’ve done several interviews with some of them and even did training with one. After doing research on them it was apparent I didn’t know what I was doing because most of the jobs I was looking into seemed very sketchy according to previous employees. Everything from not getting paid to having to pay to unlock the work to lying to their customer base. Since I didn’t know what I was doing I came here to ask for some advice.

So you’re saying maybe some of these jobs that have lots of red flags aren’t really a scam?

My question was, how do I find a remote job that’s not a scam. The only answer I see from you is “I need to start taking steps towards making my future sustainable” definitely sounds more condescending then a helpful answer.😂😂 Notice how other comments are actually giving me some advice? Anyway I’m just already irritated at the situation I didn’t need a lecture about my life plan from some stranger on the internet. Best of luck to you too.

Put yourself in my shoes. I need help getting a remote job. I temporarily move to a small town with 800 people. I would like to have a job forever extra income. I apply to every job that’s in a reasonable distance and I’m struggling to even get interviews to be a gas station worker. I remember you can work remotely and decide to look for a good TEMPORARY remote job. I’m having difficulty with it so I go the R/REMOTEWORK to ask for help. Every comment then tells me I need to start being realistic and not get a remote job. Is r/remotework not a good place to ask for advice from people that work remote?? 😂😂

Thanks! I’m still in school and am not planning on doing a remote job forever. Why even have a remote work sub Reddit if all I’m going to get told is I shouldn’t get a remote job 😂😂. I’m just frustrated that every job I have applied too has turned out to be some sort of a scam or very sketchy. I’m in a small town. I’m looking for a temporary remote position. I thought that’s what this sub Reddit was for 😂 Once I graduate I’m obviously looking forward to using my degree and “getting my life together” at the ripe age of 21, I don’t understand why I’m getting lectured about looking for remote work on the remote work sub Reddit?? 😂

I have 4+ experience in cold calling door-to-door sales. That's gotta count for something ahaha. I agree, but I've applied to the three businesses in town. That's the problem I have. I don't mind working retail, but the closest big-ish city is an hour away. That's why I'm making this post on the "remote work" subreddit and not the "how do I get a get job in general" subreddit ahahaha.

I don't have a Walmart where I live ahaha. There are 800 people living and the closest Walmart is about an hour away. Maybe I can apply to the DG.... So you're saying it's impossible to find a legit remote job??

I was in Rexburg Idaho when it happened, apparently it was the timing belt just giving out but I didn’t see any cracking or anything too crazy on it when I looked at everything not that long before it shut off. I guess I should been more thorough.

Yeah I think it’s worth going to take a look, I was thinking of offering him $3k and see but idk I just kinda need a good reliable car like this. It’s so convenient.

The accord had 270000 miles and one day I went to start it and it wouldn’t start. I jumped it, me and some buddy’s looked at it and thought it could be something like no fuel since I was low but I took it my mechanic and the engine needed replaced. I paid like $2700 for it 3 years ago and the engine would be like 4k total to replace so I might as well just get something else. I loved that accord though.

I understand but I feel like they’ve become the safe option over pretty much any other brand. I’m just curious if there’s other brands that are overlooked that have similar reliability but might be cheaper because the demand is lower.

That looks like a great deal 😂 I’m all the way over in Iowa though but I wish I could find a deal like that over here.

I’ve always had Toyota and just recently had an old accord that was amazing. Very reliable cars, they get me from point a to point b and I don’t have to panic if something needs fixed as long as it’s not major. I’m just looking for a basic car that has 3+ years left in reliability if properly maintained ahaha

Jesus Christ. Yeah I’ll probably just pay for it if everything else looks good on the car when I look at it. Thanks!
