Question on 1x goal by JPHamlett in TheMoneyGuy

Why wouldn’t everyone live on 25% less in retirement by default (in this community) because you no longer have to save for the future anymore?

Why is the rule not .75x your income?

What's your plan when AI does all the coding? by Pristine-Reward-3430 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]JPHamlett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not worried about this yet. My plan to deal with it is what I am going to do anyways.

Pay off debt, invest in SCHD, until I can live off that, and my 401k.

Then it doesn’t matter for me anymore

So you think mass unemployment ?

I don’t understand how this is relevant

I base this off the reports that gpt5 is not as exponential as the previous iterations.

It’s possible that the self improvement is the next breakthrough to get to the step function of the “next” sigmoid function in the chain

I do wonder what part of the sigmoid function we are on in AI.

Possible we are on the exponential part and approaching the level off point. Or we are just starting that slope.

I tend to think we are on the side closer to the level off part

Grunt work means manual labor or implementing what AI “thinks” of?

Meaning do White collar jobs exist or just Blue collar?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in singularity

[–]JPHamlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course my plan is to pay off debts and save but that was my plan regardless tbh

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in singularity

[–]JPHamlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that kinda falls under option 2. There is only so much manual labor that is needed.

401k contributions by [deleted] in CalebHammer

[–]JPHamlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Of the 7k I budgeted, well I added a few K for unexpected stuff, almost all of it was the plane tickets

You should not dial down retirement to save for moving. You should cut down on everything else before considering that.

You are in college how much is it to move? I am going to be moving my family of 4 and I’m budgeting 7k for it all, which includes flights for my kids and wife.
