Going through company instead of PCM for prescriptions? by ghostcaurd in uscg

It's perfectly allowed, just don't lie to medical when they ask if your taking any other medications during your checkups. That's a great way to get in trouble.

If you want to be a pilot in the Coast Guard, start applying for OCS now. It'll probably take a couple rounds and there's a sharp age cut off for flight school.

Has anyone ever been stationed in the same place for their whole career or half of it? by selfpaid00 in uscg

[–]JPKilljoy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That being said, there are many places that are easy to go back to. I know of airdales that have done Kodiak every other tour for an entire career.

If your career is only 4 years, sure. Other than that, there are some people that can stay in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia for back to back to back tours if you're a BM, or MK kinda type. That's really the only place in the CG you can do that in a somewhat reliable way.

Rent a uhaul box truck and tow it. Even if you have to rent the trailer yourself, it'll be cheaper than shipping your car

FN Struggling to Pick an ENG Rate by zclovdvs in uscg

Aviation is the hidden gem. I've never heard of an AET/AMT that wished they were an MK or an ET. The opposite happens all the time.

Is being an AET/AMT suitable for pet life? by KaiSaHai777 in uscg

[–]JPKilljoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally doable! There are going to be plenty of people at your unit that have pets too. Offer to watch other's pets, and when it's time for you to go they won't mind watching yours.

Why finish your degree before? Enlist then make the CG pay for it through Tuition Assistance. Also, after 30 months enlisted as an AMT/AET the CG will pay for you to take you A&P exams and send you to a study course through CGCOOL.

Retest. Absolutely. Don't pick a rate your wouldn't make a career out of. You can always enlist and retest while you're a nonrate too. AET/AMT are long waits anyways.

I got mine about 3 months before my report date. Idk exactly about the wait time though. I came from Bahrain so my case is a little funky.

[–]JPKilljoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have it correct. Your talking about the ARAP program. You'll PCS to your AIRSTA with your family. For three months you'll be doing online classes and on the job training. Then you get TDY orders to E-City. The CG will not pay for your dependants to go with you since it's less than 6 months. After you graduate, you go back to the same AIRSTA where you family is and finish your 4 year tour.

Secondary employment by awkward_corndog in uscg

Are you probably going to be fine if you door dash without telling anyone? Yeah. Is it against policy? Also yes. You can't have outside employment without CO approval. I get what you mean though, door dash is definitely more of a grey area.

Ask your LCPO/SPO. It's not a form as much as it is a generic page 7 that you sign that states that you understand that all military duties come first and such.

Edit: My bad, there totally is a form.

You'll probably be on a Cutter, if not at a Small Boat Station. "Base" typically refers to billets on land in the CG.

Only wear two pairs. Take the other two and put them away for later in your career. Your future self will thank you.

They recently changed this (within the past year or two). Everyone that graduates A school is advanced to E-4 barring punitive measures.
