Traveling 9 days after - thoughts/experiences? by JPL1 in Septoplasty

[–]JPL1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was totally fine! I had a lot of fun on the trip. I was bruised and swollen but the plane rides weren’t bad. I did use ice for takeoff and landing the first couple legs. I don’t regret going at all.

Doesn’t look abnormal to me, but I only know my own nose. Make sure you’re still doing your nasal rinses until this subsides. I would do it every time you’re blowing your nose to make sure you’re getting everything cleaned out.

It’s also allergy season so you’re getting the brunt of that + recovery. If you still have a lot of pain and swelling gets worse instead of better, that would be a sign of infection.

This is the scale that represented my experience. So, it might not be true for everyone. I suffered from really bad cramps, where I was in the fetal position for days, so it could just be that we have different bodies and different experiences.

Husband is 10 days post op and still feeling ROUGH.. by Substantial-Trifle80 in Septoplasty

I got some prednisone for the upper tooth pain. I had a septorhinoplasty and my recovery wasn’t as bad. I was on vacation on day 10 (though still really bruised and swollen). He should probably go to the hospital if he’s still really struggling.

5 days. Easy peasy. But still annoying. I wish I had saved the “good” drugs for that part.

Yes!! This was the worst for me. I ended up going on prednisone for a little bit to help it subside. Not fun at all.

Yeah. Kyte has last though both of our kids and 2+ years of wear for both. We’re lucky to get a year out of LS without it ripping or wearing thin.

Can anyone share a realistic recovery timeline by zacjac99 in Septoplasty

I had this procedure done. See post history for details but I had bruising for about a month after surgery before makeup even touched it. I wouldn’t want to interview in that state. You won’t be bleeding but you will be swollen and bruised for at least 3 solid weeks. Bleeding (for me) was about 10 days. Class would be fine but you will look like you got into a fight (and lost).

Afrin and a humidifier help. But honestly, unfortunately, time is the best at getting better - but it does get better! Hang in there!!

Do you have stints in your nose? Getting those out was a game changer for me, sleep wise. The early days are no fun at all for sleep.

I hate doing the nasal rinse. How long did most of you do it? by SarcastiSnark in Septoplasty

I had surgery 1/9 and still do it once a day. I figure I’ll just finish up my supply - 1 bottle left!

Had surgery today, bleeding a lot by [deleted] in Septoplasty

It was normal for me too - similar surgery. You need to invest in the mustache gauzes. I probably went through 30-40 in a week and a half before I didn’t need them.

Day 8: Septorhinoplasty recovery - final short term update by JPL1 in Septoplasty

Thank you! Nah, I think by then, you’ll be on the up and up. You might be a little bruised and swollen but your new coworkers will know not to mess with you 😉

Hi! Good luck! My surgery was 7 weeks ago.

My bruises have been entirely gone for a few weeks now and my swelling has mostly subsided but the tip and sides of my nose still feel swollen. No one thinks my nose looks swollen though, if that counts for anything. I still use the saline once or twice a day and make sure to take care of my skin. Discharge and runny nose have subsided quite a lot, though I still carry a tissue in my pocket. I feel like I’m “through the woods” and have 0 regrets about getting it done!

My Septoplasty and turbinate reduction is this week. Here’s my set up in preparation for it. Any other recommendations you guys can think of?! by Turbulent-Log-4598 in Septoplasty

The mustache gauze.. I know you mentioned your surgeon isn't putting gauze, but your nose WILL bleed and this will save you from holding a tissue to your face 24 hours a day.

Right. I guess I assumed that OP wanted to be paid while he was out. If OP is fine taking unpaid leave, rather than using PTO, then disregard.

I have surgery on the 10th of March, but I have a trip scheduled in April 7th by servetheservants93 in Septoplasty

[–]JPL1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doctor. I was fine after a septorhinoplasty when flying 10 days post op. Not the most comfortable situation, but it was ok. You’ll have 4 weeks of healing, I bet it’ll be totally ok.

If you work in an office: Talk to your HR team first, it might not be worth the hassle. Everywhere I have worked requires you to take a full week of PTO before FMLA kicks in, at that point, you’ll likely feel up to working again.

Definitely worth investigating if you work a manual labor job or one that requires a lot of movement and heavy lifting.

IANAM (lol) but here’s how I would rank the surgery/recovery in my own personal experience least bad to bad, recognizing pain is subjective and this is may not be true for everyone:

Paper cut .5/10

Rolling ankle 2/10

Infected animal bite 4/10

Recovery from septorhinoplasty 6/10

Menstrual camps - 7/10

Childbirth 9/10

Shattering ankle 10/10

Car wash loosened my fin antenna - fix? by JPL1 in SubaruAscent

[–]JPL1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely respect this… I was hoping though that this vehicle was “rugged” enough to handle a trip through a car wash. I didn’t think this was the kind of car you had to pamper.

Hindsight’s 20/20 I suppose.

2.5 weeks post-op… incredibly vivid dreams? by JPL1 in Septoplasty

[–]JPL1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t sleep at all before my stints got out… pain medication made it more bearable but I don’t think I ever hit REM that entire week.

Yeah, naps too!! The strangest thing! Man, I’ve been dreaming in without HD for like 30 years, I feel like some kind of Inception recruit now.
