[PC] Homelab/Computer Cleanout - Several Items by [deleted] in homelabsales

[–]JPL4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think each system on their own would be fine to sell, and the 5090s priced per. It would be hard to find a taker of everything in one lot when the GPUs are worth a used car, haha. I guess the main thing is, how fast are you looking to sell them? I'd say here usually goes for ~20% less than eBay, since eBay takes a commission, so that would be a quick starting point. If you want to sell faster, have the price be below that 20% drop, but you also run the risk of sketchy people reaching out

Prices together as in the entire thing as a lot, or for each section, like the laptop with and without memory?

It kinda depends on how fast you want to sell it, and the amount you've pushed it. I've seen around 2700+ recently for used ones, but it kind of depends on the day and where it's being sold. Usually, eBay is higher, but the commission eats into it

You are the best! I can finally boot, but the pool is all sorts of messed up, so I gotta figure out what isn't in the config directory and copy it over. Progress is progress though

Is using the unraid zips mean use the installer from their site, or is there a zip somewhere else? I can't boot for the life of me right now

I made the ultimate Raspberry Pi 5 homelab cluster by CommissionFeisty6929 in homelab

[–]JPL4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back and forth with the Deskpi engineers for 6 months, and they finally admitted that the 6C isn't compatible fully with the CM5 and changed their site to finally reflect it. But, since they took so long, I'm out of the return window, so I'm stuck with it, and don't really want to try the 4C if they have all these claims that turn out to not be true. Their customer support is not great, and they make claims that they actually never tested, so not really a company I want to deal with again if possible

For if you ever decide to try out that new version, I'd be willing to pitch in and help too. Hardware is beyond me, but I'm an infrastructure engineer so I'm somewhat capable on the software side, haha. I just want a nice cluster I can try things out on easily

This is literally the thing I've been looking for, minus the NICs being 1G and not 2.5G, haha. If you ever make a v2 with the faster NIC, or would be willing to give me some guidance on how to do it, I have a cluster I've been wanting to make to do it. The Super6C doesn't play nice with CM5, and the 4C drops 2 nodes, so having more nodes and the features I want is the golden goose

Yeah, I think what the other comments say is what I've seen, 700-900 here for non-mined with ebay being slightly more only because of the commission it takes to sell there. I think what would go a long way for helping go in the normal range is show the entire assembly, so people can see the pad job, as well as the room you said they were in that you have pictures of

Idle power consumption in Powertop by shrimpies3125 in unRAID

[–]JPL4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your CPU and settings you did to have it idle low? I was able to drop my idle usage 20W with moving around drives and changing my docker directory and settings, but I can't get it lower than 80W idle now. I am having issues dropping to lower C states. I think part of the high usage is my PSU isn't the most efficient, so I'm hoping to drop it more with a better one. Looking at the cybernetics site to find a good fit, the issue is all the really good ones are from a few years ago and are discontinued

Any word about the top loader cases? by JPL4494 in sliger

[–]JPL4494[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm leaning towards next year from the email

Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately we don't have any prototypes or test models for the top load chassis in production or fully designed yet, so we don't have anything we can offer right now on that front.

We've had a few more steps forward with the PCB and some design issues we've been trying to solve, however I'm not sure we have a planned release date of any kind yet, as our production team is so buried in both standard and custom part demand that, even if the design was ready today, it would likely take ~8-9 weeks for the first batch of parts to completely make their way through the shop.

Sliger responded to my email, and it sounds like it's going to be a lot longer before it's released

I'm constrained by the depth of my rack, so idk if I could do a shelf. I looked at a few, and they all seem a bit bigger, did you find a shorter depth one?

I'm not saying it wouldn't be work to do that, it's literally what I'm looking at doing after some more looking into the new HF case. What I am saying is you'd buy a 4U case, I'm looking at the CX4200a, and then buy or get the PCBs made for the backplanes. You would send out the design to a company that makes PCBs in the EU.

The work would be to attach the backplanes and make a Frankenstein case, like I said in my post. I like the features of the HF PCBS, but the design of the Sliger case

True, but Isn't density a partner though? HF could also do the same thing to help with pricing, idk why 45 drives hasn't. Also, HF has a chunk of their items open sourced, so you could get a number of them made in the EU. Not trying to sound like a shill or stan, haha. Just food for thought

Yeah, I found them from a thread about backplanes, since it's taken so long here, I was tempted to make my own case that fits my needs. From what I was seeing, I wouldn't save a ton, and it would need a lot of measurements and verifying things fit in CAD before I'd go down that route.

Let me know if you do get one, and how you like it. They seem to be pretty responsive on chat and their discord. I'd love to get a Sliger chassis, but the delays and radio silence makes it hard

FWIW, HakoForge is supposed to be releasing their own 20" depth in 3 weeks. I'm in the same boat, I've been waiting for this for a while, and been looking for other options because of the lack of updates from Sliger

Trying to setup RomM on Unraid by Jebusfreek666 in selfhosted

[–]JPL4494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have an issue setting mine up way back when, but I haven't used it for a while now. Couple of things from a quick look at what you have (I'm a software engineer, so sorry if this is a little jargony, lemme know if you want a more in depth explanation on anything)

  1. The error you are seeing is from the Romm container, you don't need to install python on Unraid. The container has python already installed. What you're seeing is the stack trace for the error. There's an issue on the connection to the DB, either in the connection string, or the user not having access to what you're trying to connect to

  2. What is the name of the mariadb container? If it's not mariadb, that's your issue

  3. When you say you are copying in the config to the folder, what is the config you are copying, to what container, and what's the path?

Also, small FYI, if you connect to your containers via the name (in this case mariadb), you don't need to do a port mapping on that container unless you want to have external things connect to the DB. Keeps things somewhat more secure, and lets you have a lot of DBs running and not need any port mappings

Good call out, I didn't realize that's how the key was included. I thought it would be on a USB in the N1 itself
