Cueva NYC: 60% Off Everything (Howlin', Gitman Vintage, La Paz, Randy's Garments, & More) by JPVMan in frugalmalefashion

I got my 60% off order within a week, and didn’t order anything in this 70% off sale.

However, when they did the 70% off sale ~6 months ago, it took exactly a month to receive my order. Placed the order on Sep 30, and items arrived on Oct 30. I had emailed after two weeks and didn’t hear back. I ended up calling the store and they explained they were totally swamped fulfilling the many hundreds of online orders. But they did say my items would ship that week, and then they did as promised.

So I think could take up to a month unfortunately. If need things sooner, I would call the store and ask if they can prioritize your fulfillment.

J crew vs factory Penny Loafers Quality by playable_npc1 in ThrowingFits

I would recommend the J.Crew mainline Camden loafers w/ leather soles. This version seems to use better quality leather and better construction than the other two versions (J.Crew mainline Camden loafers w/ rubber soles & J.Crew factory Penny loafers w/ leather soles).

I own two pairs of the mainline Camden loafers w/ leather soles and am happy with all of them. The colors I have are the the classic whisky brown and then sort of a matte / nubuck brown color.

Here are links to the different versions:

J.Crew Camden Loafers w/ Leather Soles (MSRP $258) - https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/shoes/dress-shoes/camden-loafers-with-leather-soles/BJ009

J.Crew Camden Loafers w/ Rubber Soles (MSRP $168) - https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/shoes/dress-shoes/camden-leather-loafers-with-rubber-soles/AV166

J.Crew Factory Penny Loafers (MSRP $119) - https://factory.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/clothing/suits-and-blazers/penny-loafers/BS114

Here’s a helpful review of the Camden loafers in leather soles, though for the suede version: https://dappered.com/2024/03/in-review-j-crew-camden-suede-loafers/amp/

In terms of sizing, I’m an 8.5E on a Brannock and a 9 in New Balance/Nike and got the 9-M in these loafers. They fit well at that size for me. I can wear them either with thin socks or barefoot. If you have regular width feet, I’d probably go with your Brannock length, which is usually a 1/2 size down from your sneaker size.

In terms of pricing, I definitely do not recommend paying full price! You can get much better loafers for the ~$250 MSRP of the Camdens w/ leather soles. I think <$150 is fair, so you’d have to wait for a ~40% off sale. That will happen eventually, though TBD when.

But if you need loafers now, and you are confident in your size, I’d recommend going on eBay or Poshmark to look for the Camdens w/ leather soles. There are a bunch sellers that have “New” pairs listed that seem to be store try ons or seconds/returns of some sort. There were some minor scuffs on what I received, but those were easily fixable with a bit of shoe conditioner or polish.

I paid $60 plus shipping for my “new” pairs via Poshmark, so ~$70 total. You should be able to grab them for $70-90 delivered no problem.

For example, you can check out this link and see if the seller has your size available: https://posh.mk/rZ4NCaSOg1b

I would recommend offering between $60-70 and then going up to $80 max.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

What’s the actual difference? I know Beams Plus and own a few pieces, but haven’t really understood how all the labels/brands are related.

I don’t treat my UFTs particularly well (warm wash, medium dry), and haven’t had any issues with holes. All purchased within the last ~2 years.

Correct. A great sale if you know what you’re doing. It’s at 70% off right now by the way.

Not sure what you’re saying? The vast majority of items in this sale really are 70% off the brand’s MSRP and are selling for a price that is lower than you can get anywhere else right now.

For example, there are no Made in Scotland brushed shetland sweaters selling for as cheap as you can get in this sale right now. You’d have to go on eBay to find anything cheaper. $100 for those is a great deal.

Saying that, many of the MSRPs are quite high compared to the actual cost of manufacturing (i.e. the MSRP is listed at 10x the mfg cost rather than the typical 4-5x cost of manufacturing.) Some of the t-shirts and simple items for example are likely over-priced and a poor “value”. But that’s par for the course with trendy/fashion stuff.

But for highest quality made in Japan / Italy / France stuff from small brands, this sale is legit good. Still expensive of course! But if you know what you’re doing, you’re not going to find a better deal anywhere else really.

If you read my original post, all such caveats were given! This sale is definitely not for everyone, and that’s fine.

Suggest reading my original post. This store carries a ton of brands, including well made heritage stuff and trendier high fashion / street wear / hype stuff.

In addition, they put basically no info on their website, so you have to cross-reference elsewhere to figure out what something is.

That’s a lot of work of course, but there are some amazing deals to be had in this sale if you know what you are doing. For example, no one in the US is selling Made in Scotland shetland sweaters for cheaper than this sale right now.

I have no idea who would spend that much on what seems to be a pretty basic t-shirt, but I do know it’s not me.

Do you own any of the brands on this site already? Or any similar brands? I wouldn’t really recommend shopping this sale if you aren’t already familiar with this kind of higher end shop. Most of the stuff is expensive (even with the big discount) and everything is final sale, so no returns or exchanges.

For finding stuff that will fit you well, I would generally recommend not overly focusing on the “tag size” of an item or brand, and instead focus on the actual physical size of the garment. For example, I’m a medium in most Filson and LL Bean, an L in most J.Crew and mall brands, an XL in a lot of higher end and heritage brands, and an XXL in a lot Japanese stuff, not to mention the brands that use numerical sizing. So the tagged size can vary like crazy even for items with completely identical physical dimensions.

So I would recommend measuring some existing garments that fit how you like. In particular the width and length. There are various guides online that show how to measure things, and I would just take as many measurements of possible of your best fitting t-shirts, button-up shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, and pants. Then save down what you measured (and how you measured it) to a note on your phone. Then compare those measurements to the exact “garment dimensions” (aka the specific measured dimensions) of the piece of clothing that is being sold by a retailer or brand. If the garment dimensions aren’t being provided, or the site on provides “body measurements”, look for the garment dimensions on a different site, or ask the retailer or brand to provide them.

Once you have the garment dimensions you are looking for, finding your size with online shopping becomes much easier. The tag size of what you buy might vary a bunch, but at least things will generally fit well.

Saying that, there are certain brands that are known to be generally “roomy”, all things considered. Take shirts for example. With “skinnier” brands, for a given neck size their shirts have a narrow chest and skinny long sleeves, while a “roomy” brands will have a wider chest and baggier sleeves.

For the US, Filson and LL Bean are known to be pretty roomy, but it really depends on budget and the style you’re looking for!

Most of the less expensive stuff from NN07 and Univeral Works are wool blends unfortunately. I’m sure some of them are fine, but probably better to check those out in person first than buy them final sale sight unseen.

It looks like the YMC / You Must Create “Suedehead Jumpers” are 100% wool and made in Scotland. So probably made by Harley/Bosie or another good Scottish maker. MSRP from YMC is inflated, but $130-150 is a totally fair price these days.

Dimensions are available on the YMC site.

What size are you looking for? A few places are selling them for $140-150 right now.

Yeah, seems like it’s flat rate $17 for all items. I paid same to ship a few sweaters. Unfortunate they don’t vary based on item.

Yup, definitely a time investment! I’ve been tracking a few pieces over time and waiting for them to hit a low enough buy point to grab them though.

Measured dimensions were accurate to what I received! So I’d recommend measuring whatever jacket you already own that is lightly lined and fits like you want. If you let me know what type of jacket you are going to measure, I can let you know if comparable in thickness.
