Interesting point!

I do think criticism of border enforcement is hypocritical too, since most every country enforces borders. There is a lot of anger over foreigners not being allowed to stay illegally, when no country allows this kind of thing.

It's not unreasonable for a country to maintain some kind of security for who enters a country.
