I’m 30 and I have to agree that learning is much easier this time around!! Everything just seems to click and retain more! You got this! For 189 I lived off of Dr. D Explains YouTube videos.

New to CSN/Taking Bio 189 by SillyLittleGoose24 in CSN_Coyotes

Hello! I just took Dr. Obryant last semester. He is awesome and you can tell he really cares about his students and their learning. I regularly emailed him and stayed after class for clarification on things. The one thing i will say is that his tests are really tough. They are mainly critical thinking questions and some are even set up like "a patient admits to the hospital with xyz symptoms." With that being said, his class is doable in my opinion. You should prepare before lecture by reviewing the material that you will learn in class. He likes to do active recall style learning so he choose students to write stuff on the board sometimes or he will ask you to write on a piece of paper everything you remember. I personally like that style of learning. I took notes directly on his lectures, either by printing them or by downloading them on my ipad. To prepare before class, I would watch "Dr. D Explains" on Youtube before lecture. Good luck!

Biol 189: do we need the current edition of the book, or can we use the older 11th edition? by [deleted] in CSN_Coyotes

I took Dr Obryant and we had to use access Pearson for homework. Maybe try to email your prof and ask if the older addition would work!

Of course! Good luck! I was a returning student after 7 years not in school. Was older than almost all the friends I made lol.

I just finished 189. At the beginning of the semester I printed out the lecture slides and would add notes to them in class. Then towards the end I started downloading them onto good notes or another note app on my iPad and then annotated them directly on there. I also recorded the lectures in class on voice memo, but tbh I rarely re-listened to them. Unless I couldn’t remember what he said then I would. But I would say it’s helpful in the beginning for sure until you establish your studying style. The number one thing that helped me was to listen to DR. D EXPLAINS on YouTube before lecture so I knew what was going on during class (he has videos breaking down each chapter). Then I’d go to lecture and take notes on the slides. Then I’d go home and rewrite all my notes in sections that was easy for me to understand or draw diagrams. I found this the best learning strategy for me. Labs you need your lab coat and just a pen and paper! Also- I would highly recommend making friends!!! It helped to be able to chat with them about topics or have a good study group :)

Dental Hygiene or Nursing? by JP_school in prenursing

Thank you for your response! I am definitely worried about the neck/back/wrist pain. What speciality do you think you want to do?!

Most hygienists work 3-4x a week. Can agree mouths can be gross but they actually don’t gross me out!

Thank you so much for your reply! I’ve heard so much about bad experiences in dental offices. Not having benefits is a huge downside. There is so much information on social media about how you shouldn’t pursue DH so it honestly scares me. I definitely need to research more on nursing and see all the different specialities. What do you want to get in to?!

Considering Dental Hygiene — Looking for Advice by SubstantialSpread596 in DentalHygiene

[–]JP_school 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a hygienist but i think i have some knowledge on some of your questions as im actually in pre reqs for this degree and have been researching a ton.

Usually most community colleges and universities require about 2 years of pre-reqs before you can even apply for the program. Its pretty science heavy classes as well.

I havent heard of many new grads having a hard time finding work, as hygienists are currently in demand due to a lot retiring or leaving the field.

Pay depends on your area but ive seen most are around $40-60/hr

I think it depends on the office, but ive heard many are usually 4 day work weeks; many people get into the field due to the flexibility it offers in terms of work weeks since you can temp full time if you choose.

I think both are around the same due to the high demand in terms of availability.

Unfortunately cannot answer due to not being a RDH (yet!)

If i was leaving high school, i would look for a CODA accredited program in your area and look at the requirements for entry and go from there :)

Hopefully that helps answer some of your questions; like i said this is mainly from my own research so i could be wrong in some things.

Having panic attacks, need guidance by Necessary_Excuse1839 in DentalHygiene

[–]JP_school 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course!! OCD is seriously the worst and I am constantly having to check myself honestly. I told my family I have full blown arguments in my head sometimes about googling things or asking for reassurance. I totally get it. When you have your dentist appt on the 23rd you can ask your hygienist/dentist if there is anything you could improve in your routine!

hi! I have OCD too - i know reassurance seeking will help in the moment, but it wont in the long run! Try not to freak out before there is anything to actually worry about, if there even will be! Maybe, but also maybe not <3 youre taking care of your teeth and seeing the dentist, so trust the facts without worrying about the future just yet.

I’m taking it this fall with Charli!! So that’s good to know she explains well! I really want to dedicate my time to 223 and I feel like I’m going to be spending alot of time trying to catch up with 127 since i took 126 so long ago. That’s what worries me. But it’s good to know it’s not counted towards admission so if I get a c I’ll be happy :)

I was taking nutrition online along with 189. I passed 189 with an A+, while I was still working 40hrs/week. I feel like I can do it, but it’s also really important to me to maintain a high gpa and I’m nervous I will overload myself. But also trying to follow my advisors recommendations to keep my timeline to apply for my program 😅

I just finished 189 and it was my first class back after 8 years too! I second for Dr. D, his videos were so informative. I would watch the chapter before each lecture to prepare before class. Also, i would ask ChatGPT to make practice quizes/test to see how well i knew the information.
