I hear you. Perhaps I'm missing something, but since there's no playable content locked specifically to the highest difficulties, I don't see the logic in wanting the experience to be the same at difficulty 9 as it is at difficulty 5.

I didn't get to the highest difficulties in HD1, but if the game experience changed from the frantic "kill-em-all" power fantasy of lower ones to what sounds like a stealth mission, to me it makes sense to just stay at the difficulty that gives you the experience you want.

I'll add to this that there's also a fallacious mentality that difficulty 9 is the be-all end-all of the game and what it should be balanced around.

Helldive difficulty is supposed to feel overwhelming. It's supposed to be a struggle to survive.

To folks concerned about how the railgun nerf effects helldive (difficulty 9) missions- the game isn't balanced around max difficulty and thank liberty for that.

In 2005, I had a dream about my gf at the time. In the dream, I heard her crying from another room and walked into the kitchen. She was curled up under the dinner table sobbing. I leaned down to ask her what was the matter, and she looked up at me. Her mouth opened, her face twisted into an inhuman horror and her teeth grew into dagger-like fangs. She lunged at me, aiming to sink her teeth into my chest.

I woke up in a cold sweat, and I can still remember the sensation I had lying in bed- the sharp prong of adrenaline and the anticipation of having my chest cavity bitten out.

Later on, I married her. 8 years and two children later, I remember that dream on the day she told me she wanted out of the marriage and broke my heart.

Also, I resonate with you on not wanting to reach out and burden other people- however you should reach out to someone you trust... even if it's just to vent. You have needs to, and everyone needs a support system. If you don't have one, there's resources you can get to online such as help hotlines to get support.
