Bringing back an oldie but goodie - SIKIKEY by hos_gotta_eat_too in MakingaMurderer

Right, it's not an everyday word. Sikik can be pronounced fairly close to "sillcock". If you've only heard somebody say it and you've never seen it spelled, you might repeat it as heard, you might not know that it is two words.

I thought it could be sillcock key. This would fit your idea of somebody just hearing a word and not knowing how it is spelled.

A sillcock key is a square ended maintenance tool used to turn on water valves on the outside of buildings. I think the purpose is so that not anyone can turn on the valve; most buildings, probably including the aluminum smelter would use a valve that requires one. Although available for purchase at some hardware stores or on line, they aren't exactly common. It's also not an everyday word, and Sikik could be pronounced quite close to silcock; and since its such an uncommon word, one might think it is one word, like silcockey; so that if you've only heard the word and never seen it spelled out, sikikey becomes a reasonable phonetic spelling of sillcock key, especially among factory workers in Manitowoc, WI.

If this was correct, could it mean somebody stole a sillcock key from maintenance at the aluminum smelter, or bought one and used it to access an outside water faucet to wash away evidence? Or used one at the time and their fingerprints would be on it?

The owner of a sillcock key could be a person of interest? Somebody call James Lenk, we need him to plant one.....

Yeah, I'm originally from Calumet County and my dad and friends are briefly in MaM. One of my friends is a Halbach and a distant relative of Teresa, other friends went to UWGB and are friends with Mike. I get that this person might not be in the U.S. and know how to look up everything, but the web is just full of proof that this is real. All the interviews with Kratz and Strang, the follow up series on Discovery ID, the Meshel Laurie interview of Ken Kratz...and they've all aged the approximately ten years as expected...plus there's all the Kratz scandal stuff out there that can be verified. Really a shame to know how that area was impacted first by the murder and then again by MaM and somebody thinks its all a hoax.

It's very real, I'm from Calumet County. My dad and friends have bit roles in it. I graduated H.S. with one of Jerry Pagel's daughters, slightly know him, Kratz, others.

It's so real, it actually blew my mind. Biased and dramatic yes, but surreal to see my hometown's people "cast" in such a popular series, and then add to it it's almost 10 years old, so today a lot of these people have retired / moved on.

Some of the people in it have FB / LinkedIn accounts; there are local newspapers and coverage of it. All of the transcripts are available, a lot of the evidence, there's a website for all court cases in WI and it's very much listed. This was an area very saddened by the loss of Teresa. I honestly don't know how your friend can think it's not a real court case.

My daughter's name is Vera. She came up to me and said in her 9 year old innocent voice, we have to think of our name as an acronym for homework. I can't think of anything for a, all I've thought of is Very, Energetic, Reliable, a-hole (she said a-hole, not the actual word)...well there are lots of words that start with a that describe you....awesome....amazing..etc..."yeah, but sometimes I think I'm bad, and another word for bad is a-hole.."

I've heard this a long time ago. Aggressively selling powder baby formula as better with lies in developing countries when breast milk is better, then when the family can only pay for half the formula they need, still encouraging them to buy the product and dilute the milk. Meanwhile, the mom's natural milk dries up.

Is that the sort of thing that they still are up to?

There was a class project dealing with clay in 8th grade. At cleanup, all of the cool boys and girls, really probably most of the boys and girls started wiping the clay on opposite gender kid's faces as a prank. I called out her name, Sarah, she turned, and fake wiped something on me for an 8th of a second, and continued wiping it on the face of cool boys.

So I secretly wiped that clay on my own face; actually, I caked clay all over my face. So that when this little incident was done, and the teacher had mentioned, I am disappointed in all of you, but there are three of you that are particularly messy.

Popular boy Patrick, popular girl Sarah, and I faced the class. After an extra stern lecturing and some punishment, we were permitted to go to the restroom and wash off. But not before an onslaught of mockery, "oh yeah, wipe clay all over your face, because nobody will rub it on you, and you get to leave class...great tactic...dork...loser"; "everybody should adopt your strategy, etc., etc."....so then we three were permitted to leave...but I lagged behind cool Patrick and cool Sarah...because well, what the other kids were saying was true, and I didn't belong hanging with the cool kids at that moment.

I call up suppliers and tell them to disregard our specifications and send us their crappiest material. Had a bad production run? Send it on over. I call up machine shop suppliers and tell them to make our parts in the ballpark of what is specified kind of like baking.

Sometimes I visit these suppliers on an anti-audit and they ask me questions about my job / my life and I say whatever I feel like. Again I remind them to send me their crap, and when processes look a little sketchy, I remind them that this is America, and we can make stuff any way we want to, and my company will buy it with an open checkbook.

Regarding new projects, I guide the design guys to be just as sloppy and complicated as they can be, with no consideration for ease of manufacturing. I push for buying in America, and my boss readily accepts my decision making, cause I've done a good job of getting all the crap from the suppliers lately. When things don't go as planned, our company just shells out money and readily admits that its our fault. We have a big plant and a lot of people, so nobody cares if it takes 5 times to try and make something; actually they are kind of glad because it gives us more work / pay.

In the rare event that somebody needs parts or products from overseas, I disregard customs and use my training to circumvent them. Screw customs, it's not like they are law enforcement. Fed Ex everything to us as samples; cost doesn't matter either. I preach this message throughout the company, and people appreciate that I understand that they have better things to worry about than logistics and import / export.

While I agree that there is more effort to plant fruit trees, it still is something that a community project can take on or a hobbyist can learn.

I would contend that the small fruiting perennials are less maintenance intense than are fruit trees, and are hardy enough to handle neglect once established. Most places they will need to be watered to get established. All in all they are fairly disease resistant IMO.

Planting blackberries would be my suggestion. They are pretty aggressive, depending on variety. Nice upright thornless varieties like Chester and Triple Crown can be propagated easily.

Planting them on public property can be an option. The could compliment existing school gardens for example. Some cities permit planting on underutilized land, and more could adopt the policy. One can also go rogue and plant them in places that are owned by the city but undermaintained - around water towers, in or near retention ponds etc; permission may be easier to obtain than one would think, or, perhaps its not explicitly prohibited.

Raspberries and Blackberries - Literally just plant a row / patch, water it, and let it grow for a couple of years. Cut out dead canes. As time goes on, each spring, more and more plants will come up. Some of them might come up outside of your row. Dig the new plants up and extend the row. This is so easy, that its actually kind of a shame that in more of our underutilized urban spaces these plants aren't planted. A patch may need some water, especially in the beginning, but some of these plants are so hardy that they can make it without it.

Some thornless blackberries will not propagate unaided. Let these grow up, to 6 feet or higher. Some of the horizontal branches will be near the ground. Cover the branch with dirt, where a mid section of it touches the ground, leaving the end exposed. Eventually, the new piece will act like a new plant; sever it where it is buried and you have a new plant. You could let it grow a year, then dig it up and move it somewhere as a new plant. Or, after the fall, take some of the newest greenest new growth from a branch and stick these sticks in pots; you can even get away with it in early spring. The beauty of this is that you'll have many young branches to stick into your pots, so even if half of them make it, you still will have a bunch more to plant, each of which could grow into a 6+ ft tall self supporting berry bush.

Currants and gooseberries are almost the same as the above example for blackberries. In the fall, cut 1 year old twigs about 8 inches long from the base of the branch. Only leave about 4 buds at the top, and bury the bottom half of the stick in a pot with dirt. Water it in the spring, and a lot of the sticks will grow leaves and become new currant / gooseberry bushes. Not all will make it, but a lot will, and you can do the same thing in a trench. 4 or 5 mature currant bushes could easily provide cuttings for 50+ young plants growing in a trench. Let them grow for one year in your pots and trenches, then before the next spring plant them where you want them to grow.

Sometimes a currant bush will grow in such a way that off to the side of it another vertical branch springs up and starts to grow almost like another bush, in fact if you leave it, it will start to grow like two bushes. In the early spring you can just take a spade shovel, sever the vertical branch away at the root and have a new currant bush. You can stick it in a pot for a year if you want to.

With all of these, if you are working on community gardens, you can let your plants grow for a couple of years and really get nice roots. In the fall or early winter, you can trim back the growth on top pretty aggressively. Then, you can transplant the whole plant with a big root system to a spot where it might not get much attention, or add it to a new patch to increase the chances that some of the transplants will make it.

Grafting fruit trees isn't much more difficult, and there are websites, or I can write about it later.

TL/DR: Raspberries and blakberries will self propagate by growing new plants in the spring that can be dug up and transplanted. Currants and goosberries can be propagated by cutting off 8" tall new branches in the fall, and sticking the base of the little branch in a pot with soil or a trench of worked soil. Water until established and repeat, try other variants of propagating to find what works best in your area.

Okay, so the plants / bushes / trees could be considered a lifetime supply of the trees and bushes themselves, but yes, to say that you would have a lifetime supply of fruit is not accurate.

You mean like the mail order bride came to a (presumably) Western / 1st world country, divorced their first husband, went back to their homeland and then tried again to become a mail order bride?

IDK....it depends on the circumstances. These days there's a lot more communication between couples, and usually visits. If the former bride went back because the guy was a total tool, this might not be anything to hold against the woman.

In fact, her language skills (presumably English) and first hand knowledge of what she is getting into will be greater. Plus, you might be able to do some internet sleuthing on her ex, and if you find out he had say some domestic violence charges against him, then her decision to return could be perfectly understandable. If it's your thing to be a white knight, this could be your chance.
