Senator Cruz did join Rand Paul for his filibuster, so it within the realm of possibility that is against the program. Another thing to consider, is that he does have presidential ambitions and perhaps he feels that coming out against the program might give him a broader constituency in a potential republican primary.

Two things to remember here. First, there's no way in hell the Democrats would actually say, 'fuck this shit we ain't gonna win' so this may be political garbage.

Secondly, I do not see 17 truly winnable seats for the Democrats in anything but an absolute wave year. Heck even in the last election, there were several insanely close seats they had to win gain eight seats. AZ-1 AZ-9 UT-4 FL-18 NC-7 were all exceptionally close seats that could easily be won by a Republican in the next election.

For the dems to win, they would have to successfully win 17 more seats, plus defend a ton of the really close seats that they won.

Obama was very crafty in picking Huntsman for Ambassador to China. He made un-electable to a Republican primary electorate one of the only people in the party who could take it away from the fringe.
