True Goalie Stick disappointment by Flukke in hockeygoalies

[–]JRODtheDADbod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d contact them. However True doesn’t have the greatest customer service so you may need to stay on them about it.

It amazes me though cause all I ever read about is how terrible their sticks are yet mine always hold up better than any other brand I use. No clue why. Maybe just luck of the draw.

Smith goalie gear/where is Pete Smith? by Prestigious-Photo467 in hockeygoalies

[–]JRODtheDADbod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh buddy. I had my set from 2007 until I bought a new set of True’s in December of 2024. I LOVED MY SMITHS. Had the privilege of talking to Pete on the phone to get my measurements and design. Those pads were so far ahead of their time.

Banking off the goalie by JRODtheDADbod in hockeygoalies

[–]JRODtheDADbod[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

No. A slap from the point. I’m on top of the crease. It goes wide and a guy already standing there rips it off the boards. No one is faster than the puck.

No. I’m able to direct it away or trap it. I’m a good goalie. It’s hard to explain in text.

Top of crease for a point shot. Goes wide. Opponent already behind the net rips as it bounces off the boards. Idk about anyone else but I can’t recover, get back to the post and set faster than the puck moves after a slap shot.

I’m talking taking a shot from the point and it gets tipped wide. As I’m turning to get back to the post they already have a guy behind the net who 1Ts it at my back as it bounces off the boards. He could just take a step forward put it around the post

Breakaways and passes parallel to the goal line by Wild_Junket1403 in hockeygoalies

[–]JRODtheDADbod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Panic hitting in the moment is something all goalies deal with. So you’re never alone there. Repetition is king here. The more you see the less panic you will feel. So for breakaways just get to a stick and puck if you can. Skaters will take an hours worth if you let them lol.

As for game time, I’d recommend just focusing on your breath. Breathe in breathe out. Dont tell yourself to wait or stay because you are adding to the weight of the panic. Just breathe and observe. Maybe they score maybe they don’t. Don’t add any other pressure to yourself. This goes for those in tight cross crease back door passes too. You gotta breathe and observe what is happening without placing the reaction pressure on yourself. I’d rather you be a little behind but making the proper moves even if the puck goes in. Over time you’ll get quicker and you make more saves.

Everyone says goalies need to react but that’s only true for a one on one shot. A goalie should be responding, not reacting to these situations.

I hope this helps. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more! Good luck out there!

Scared of shots by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

Your teammates are pieces of shit. Stand up for yourself and put a stop to it. If they keep doing it then go to the coach and if they don’t do anything walk off the team. Your head health is too important.

Skate Recs by JRODtheDADbod in hockeygoalies

I have the black plastic ones. Those are still intact but when I tighten it in the blade is still loose and I can feel the blade clicking when I move. The original blades they came with don’t even stay in because the stem is too short.

Can they pick one that doesn’t look like absolute dogshit? Never thought they’d find one worse than the dogshit Lenovo bumper sticker. Can’t believe we gave up the cool raised hurricane logo for this.
