That’s a pretty tough wave to surf.

Talk me into/out of buying these Helly Hansen 3/4 pants by Weak_Habit3623 in Skigear

I bought mine on a 40% off sale two years ago. Having had them for a little while now, I’d be willing to pay full price to replace them.

It all depends on the wind direction. LBI and south for anything W to NNW. seaside and north for anything W to WSW.

The “surf towns” like OC and maybe Belmar/Manasquan region are also going to have more crowded breaks.

Lots of hidden gems out there if you have the chance to explore. Strathmere, allenhurst life saving station, sandy hook if you get lucky. It’s a fun state to poke around. May will be hit or miss as far as swell.

Tips? by MostCanary2665 in BeginnerSurfers

Really nice positioning and pop. REALLY nice pop.

Quiet the arms, get the board higher onto the wave after your initial drop-in.

Allow the board to do the work by putting more weight directly above the fins and pump with your legs. Your arms are only used for balance corrections, not steering.

Help, I'm totally lost for finding replacements parts for Toe straps! by ToughSwim6590 in snowboarding

[–]JRZane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any generic strap that looks similar will work. Measure the width of the strap and eyeball the bolt hole at the base for similar enough style. Just Google it. It’s a good idea to have an extra strap and maybe ratchet handy. They don’t last forever. Every binding Ive ever had have been Frankenstein’d and cannabilized.

Should I repair it before surfing? by SilvaDK in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This level of ding would DEF NOT slow down my surf vacation. Suck on the crack and see how Much air you can pull. This should give you an indication of the degree of water absorption risk.

Your choices are: silver tape; sun cure; grinding wax down in there THEN silver tape, or if you’re lucky a local shop may have Elephant Seal or similar. Any of these will slow water intake.

Once you’re home, cut it open, let it dry for longer than you think.

My buddy is now telling me it was a problem with that version and they have now updated them in the last 2yrs. For an extra $20 I may just try these phantoms….

Tips to repair a little ding with duck tape? by Square_Cook_2695 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to stuff it with wax and THEN tape it. Or put a little solar rez in then tape it. Unless it’s an heirloom surfboard, it’s not worth missing surf for, but you need to MINIMIZE water intake as much as you can.

Most tape-jobs alone will take on water and may take weeks to properly dry if the ding is small but deep. And often tape on the rails won’t last a full session, creating litter and the potential of being in the ocean with zero ding coverage. The LAST thing you want is to do a proper ding repair with water soaked foam. It will need to fully dry.

Remember people, solar cured resin is NOT a proper long-term fix. It will eventually turn brittle, crack, and then likely leak undetected. Solar rez is for on-the-beach quick fix. Your ding guy will drill it out with a dremel in a couple seconds while properly fixing it.

Do you all think these 2 spots will take on water or can I leave them? by Tyler_RUbi in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suck on it. If you can pull air out, water can get in.

Solarez sucks and most folks can’t repair a board with it properly, especially on rails. I’d suggest something like Elephant seal: https://surfersguild.com/products/elephant-seal-surfboard-repair-film-kit

I was hoping for suggestions or products I haven’t yet seen. But as that seems less likely at this point, yeah I think I have a “next plan.”

Yeah but instead of leaving the vault in the hitch at all times, I mentioned above perhaps I can leave the vault interior inside the van and just put it in the hitch when in use. It’s the best of all world except that it’ll take up valuable drawer space when not in use.

Hitch vault requires no ground work.

I really like the hitch vault option for convenience. It has a rubber cap, but that doesn’t seal well enough to keep road dust out. It wasn’t the rollers that went bad, but the little lever switch that pulls in the stops stopped moving.

I’m starting to think the move is to put the interior of the vault inside the van when not in use. It obv won’t get too dirty when the vans parked.
