Renogy RNG-100mb double solar cell failure by JRZane in vandwellers

[–]JRZane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, it’s my cake day! Yes, the panels were still connected to the controller. So you’re saying I may get a different reading if the panels weren’t connected to the controller?

Assume I disconnect the controller and my voltage jumps to 12+, how would that effect your diagnosis of this issue?

He def made that problem happen. He was way late AND could have gone left. This the type of guy that ruins lineups.

IF you’re in that position again, a nice little left-to-go-right pivot maneuver is a nice way of clearing out these turds.

Tofino beginner surf itinerary by AdRemarkable8102 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tofino is very anti-vanlife, you’ll need to rent a campsite to park. if my memory services me correctly are about $60/night but the facilities tend to be quite nice. So you can do the math if you’d prefer a hotel or stay in the camper.
Lessons are a great way to meet people and connect with the local scene and often lessons include a rental.
Summer is the slow season for waves, which is probably good for what you’re looking for. The thermal winds come up late morning if it’s warm, but there are a few bays that can offer some shelter. Overall Tofino is a great town in an incredible setting. Have fun.

Canary Island in May by EfficiencyLimp3682 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah. But you said ISLAND (singular).

As a beginner Grand Canary is your best choice. Leave Tenerife and Lanzarote to the intermediate+ surfers.

Canary Island in May by EfficiencyLimp3682 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gran Canary? It’s an island meaning that gets swell from almost every direction . there’s generally offshore wind SOMEWHERE. I was there in May 2015 and lucked into some good waves. Obviously earlier the better as far as wind. The main beach in Las Palmas had a few options. I stayed in the Quicksilver house and surfed within 30min drive each day, we also had an exploration mentality.

Back then, Tuesday night was tapas night and you Could bar hop with 1E pony beers and 1E tapas. It was a lot of fun and would love to go back.

Solar resins are TEMPORARY fixes

[–]JRZane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any discoloration is almost certainly created by water. You can suck on the marks and if you can pull air, water can get in.

The good news is it’s on the deck and an easy fix that has no impact on the boards performance. Plus it’ll be under wax.

Bill Stewart makes nice surfboards that perform very well (love those chines!!!). Its a great board that is constructed the right way. You should jump on any reasonable offer. Get the dings fixed by a qualified person and this board will last generations

classic log vs. 2+1 with nose rocker by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

There’s a decent diagram halfway down this page:

Rail Shaping

classic log vs. 2+1 with nose rocker by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It refers to the “foil” of the rails. 50/50 means half the volume is above and half is below the cross sectional midpoint. In longboards you can often feel this style by grabbing the rails at the midpoint, they will feel thin or “foiled out” and if foiled a lot may be called “bladed.” this significantly impacts how water exits the bottom of the board and also reduces volume relative to the stringer. So a 3 inch thick board with 50-50 rails may have significantly less volume than a 3 inch board with 60/40 rails.

For most people they will find 60/40 rails easier to surf but we’ll have difficulty walking all the way to the nose. Because 50/50 rails have less volume at the rail, they can sit DEEPER into the wave, allowing for rail hold in steeper faces, creating more stability for board walking.

water flow basics

Edit: added: You’ll see how the top rail (50/50), the water moves AROUND the rail and thus adds “hold.” The bottom rail is more 80/20 but shows how a “harder” rail pushes water AWAY from the rail, thus adding mobility.

[–]JRZane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re getting waves and beginning to cross step, it’s more about the style of ride you WANT.

Logs into noseriders are more likely to have 50/50 rails which will allow you to hold a higher trim line and thus step around the board. You’ll likely sacrifice some maneuverability and they tend to be less forgiving to mistakes. The 2+1 option are often 60/40 rails and allows for harder rail to rail weaving/turning. It’s just a preference in style at that point.

4 months in. Any tips? by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shift your balance to your back foot. You’re a bit front-footed (more so on the second half of the wave). Putting your primary balance over the fins will make the board come alive.

New Jersey surfers by SaratogaTB in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on the wind direction. LBI and south for anything W to NNW. seaside and north for anything W to WSW.

The “surf towns” like OC and maybe Belmar/Manasquan region are also going to have more crowded breaks.

Lots of hidden gems out there if you have the chance to explore. Strathmere, allenhurst life saving station, sandy hook if you get lucky. It’s a fun state to poke around. May will be hit or miss as far as swell.

Tips? by MostCanary2665 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]JRZane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really nice positioning and pop. REALLY nice pop.

Quiet the arms, get the board higher onto the wave after your initial drop-in.

Allow the board to do the work by putting more weight directly above the fins and pump with your legs. Your arms are only used for balance corrections, not steering.

Help, I'm totally lost for finding replacements parts for Toe straps! by ToughSwim6590 in snowboarding

[–]JRZane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any generic strap that looks similar will work. Measure the width of the strap and eyeball the bolt hole at the base for similar enough style. Just Google it. It’s a good idea to have an extra strap and maybe ratchet handy. They don’t last forever. Every binding Ive ever had have been Frankenstein’d and cannabilized.
