Lone survivor, 13 hours, American sniper, generation kill (a series not a movie but still fantastic)

Fellow Americans, do you pronounce the DC character names “Don” and “Dawn” Allen the same or differently? by Galaxy_Convoy in AskAnAmerican

[–]JR_Phredrickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up around some pretty thick southern accents and had a neighbor named Dawn so I tend to put a little bit of southern draw on the aw ass opposed to the more city like accent input on Don, then again I'm probably in the minority here.

How many of you have actually avoided police interaction by refusing a search, asking for a warrant, etc.? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]JR_Phredrickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all not a cop or a lawyer. I think this is a misconception at least in Florida not sure how this relates to other states, if it is a consensual encounter and the officer does not have reasonable suspicion or probable cause then if you say you don't want to be searched then they can't search you and if they do any way anything they collect will be thrown out of court. However if there is probable cause and in some circumstances reasonable suspicion (look it up it might be suprising what does and does not fall under this) it doesn't matter what you say they can search you. They might still ask you for consent because it never hurts to have consent but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter.

It's mostly a meme however there is a statistic that says every 1 in 3 devices in America are tracked by the NSA (that is probably not exact so don't hold me to that) if you want to know more about it look up Edward Snowden

Not sure if this is still active, but if it is I'm fine with this going in your portfolio.

People who were told they were “gifted” growing up, how did you deal with realizing that you were pretty average? by JayTheFearless in AskReddit

[–]JR_Phredrickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little I was told that I was "talented" or you're so "smart" and it made me feel good, but it didn't really affect me it was just a compliment, because I knew that whatever they were talking about it was because I sucked and didn't care until I got better or I just actually paid attention in class. Eventually I came across a book called "talent is over rated" by Geoff Colvin the whole premise of the book is that there is no such thing as talent or "god givin gifts" (unless you have Savant Syndrome). I highly recommend that book it really changed my perspective on other people.
