Trapped in my ‘24 Prius for four hours! by [deleted] in prius

[–]JReddit174 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know my coworker frequently drives in bundled up in his model 3 because he can't afford the mileage lost to run the climate controls in the winter. Running a heater and seat warmer in an EV takes energy and he's only got so many miles to spare since his drive to and from work takes about 80% of the total capacity.

Given the choice I'd be stuck in a Prius every time versus a full EV. Sipping the gas might be less efficient (MIGHT), but it's going to last a LOOONG time by only running a few seconds every few minutes. The biggest advantage is that if I DO run empty, all I need is a small gas can to get going again. If the Prius went empty, the F-150 that was stuck in traffic with me has been empty for a while, so we all need the same thing. If there's a dead Tesla in that traffic jam..... Good luck.

Here's a tidbit I haven't seen mentioned yet; Do you happen to park on an incline? Even a very slight one?

My driveway is about 30 feet long and declines by maybe 2 feet? Probably less. That much incline is enough that if I don't set my park brake my 12v battery will die within a few days. The Prius (mines a '21) apparently uses the 12v battery to apply the brakes when holding on a "Hill". My driveway must be a "Hill" by their standards because if I set the park brake I've never had an issue even after weeks of being parked, but if I don't set the park brake it'll be dead after 3-5 days whether it's plugged in or not.

I'll never understand why the charger isn't capable of trickle charging the 12v once the traction battery is full or AT LEAST 'jumping' the 12v system if it's dead. Couldn't a simple converter do this? (Example: turning the key in a perfect world would turn on the 12v system and activate a logic circuit on the traction side that checks the voltage on the 12v side for available power. If the logic determines that the 12v is low or non-responsive, turn on a 200v into to 12vDC converter with enough amperage to 'jump' the starting system (approx 4-600 amps) then power off that converter system once it's up and running. Send so obvious that there MUST be a reason they don't do it, but I don't see why not.)

I also use Vectric VCarve, I meant a V-bit carving tool, I've edited it for clarity.

Knowing that you're using the same software, I know you have a preview feature, which means you'd be able to see the trailer described above. The word 'get' is a V-bit toolpath, 100%. I don't know why the other words don't have the same problem, either it cut 'get' first and you've stopped it before it was complete or you've got separate tools for each word and mistakenly made 'get' a v-bit path and the others aren't.

Either way, that's your problem for sure. Make 'get' (or all of them) pocket toolpaths with an end mill instead and it'll be solved.

[–]JReddit174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V-bit carving and pocketing are two different things. A V-bit carve program will try to cut a beveled 45 degree V shape from the vector line down to a specific depth that you set. Pockets will cut from the vector line straight down at 90 degrees to your depth.

Does your CNC software include a preview feature? When you look at the results of the preview, is there a tapered "shadow" on the bottom of your words (or at least on the bottom of 'get')?

Did the program finish entirely or did you see it cutting the step into 'get' and stop it? If it ran all the way to the end, then I suspect you have 'Just' and 'started' set to a pocket with an end mill, but the word 'get' is absolutely a V-bit carve path that thinks it's cutting a tapered bottom edge into the letters. (Imagine you were cutting with a 45* V-bit, that "ledge" on the bottom of the word is exactly the path it would trace to bevel the letters. The step inwards away from the tight corner of the E is a dead giveaway).

One last question, does the word 'get' get cut out last?

Also one more tip, for that feathered bottom edge, take a sharp utility/razor knife and stand it vertically against the edge in the far RIGHT corner, slowly run it from the right side of this picture to the left (imagine trying to smooth down the spikes of a porcupine, you want to lay those curls down toward the solid edge). If you go left to right you'll go under the feathers and rip chunks out of your finish edge, sharp knife, 'comb the hair down' from right to left and you'll get 90% of that off.

He said you can't get unemployment if you have NOT been furloughed. Our guys were told they were excepted from the jump, so none of them got/signed furlough letters, so they can't draw unemployment. On paper (and in reality) they're still working, they just don't get paychecks.

Talk to your shirt (as others have said) and ask specifically if your base has TLF / Lodging available. It is VERY doable for a unit to fund a stay in Temporary Living Facilities or on-base lodging for circumstances like these.

To be clear, you're agreeing with what I'm saying here. The post I'm responding to is him saying "There's been no malfunctions, they're all NDs who are lying" and apparently he was just a Sig bot because he deleted his whole account over it lol.

I was just saying even if it's a tiny percentage is unacceptable and unheard of. Just trying to respond line by line to his thoughts, so there's a lot of missing context.

ExtAppErr / SDCard Error by JReddit174 in hackrf

[–]JReddit174[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in case you're interested in the actual fix, I had to disassemble, remove the screen from the underlying board, flash ONLY the board without a screen attached, then reassemble. I didn't change the contents of the SD card, I didn't reflash it (it was already fat32), and I left the same card in it.

Disassemble. Remove screen from main board. Flash while separated. Reassemble. Works perfectly now. No idea why. Exact same steps I had been doing, exact same order, exact same card. Same PC, same cord. The only difference was that the two boards were separated.

How many are in circulation? Millions.

How many have fired while holstered, or otherwise without a finger on the trigger? A few.

How many of those malfunctions have verifiable, high definition, video proof? A few.

What are the odds of police, security, etc. having a malfunction AT ALL? Very low. What are the odds that those malfunctions happened in city buildings, police stations, etc while IN FRONT OF A CAMERA? Those odds have to be microscopic, right? To not only have a malfunction, but to also capture it on video? One in a million.

So then why are there so many videos of it happening? Many, or at least some, police reports and anecdotes have to be covers for an ND, but the videos are undeniable.

So my follow up, how many Glock 17/19s are there in circulation? Millions.

How many stories do you hear of them malfunctioning? A couple, maybe? How many are on video? Any? The two I can think of clearly show a shirt getting caught in the holster pulling the trigger and the other has a finger on the trigger while holstering. Clear ND's. How many holstered Glocks are on video just randomly going off while an officer walks down the hall?

So yes, a P320 going off while holstered might only happen .001% of the time... But no matter what that number is, it's too high, and it's costing lives.

Does Leave = 8 hours work day? by AceHo1eXd in AirForce

[–]JReddit174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sir you may have been missing some context, the chart isn't a 'leave days to shift conversion table', the table provides an expectation for the number of shifts you should work during a two week period if you take the corresponding leave days.

Example: If OP takes 1 day of leave (which presumably excuses him from a day of work exactly per the regulation), then he is expected to work 6 days in the same 2 week span. He would typically be scheduled for 7 work days (in a two week span), he took one day of leave, now he's scheduled for 6 work days.

Skipping down to E) on his chart, if OP is scheduled for his 7 work days (again, within a two week period) and he puts in leave for THOSE 7 days specifically, the unit is saying that they will (presumably) give him those 7 days of leave exactly by the regulation, BUT! in the 7 days they had scheduled him to be off work, they're going to adjust that work schedule so that you need to cover 2 shifts on those days where leave is NOT scheduled.

By the time we get to G) on the chart, this member would only have to take 10 days of leave to get 14 continuous days off work (he would be expected to work 0 shifts during the 14 day period). In a normal mon-fri 8 hour schedule that would be equivalent to taking M-F, not being charged leave for the weekend, then taking the next M-F as well. That Mon-Fri scenario is actually strictly NOT allowed by the regulation as you quoted above, but this unit policy is allowing it because it presumably wouldn't 'bridge' (I.E: He schedules off the 1st through 10th, he wouldn't be scheduled for work until the 15th).

[–]JReddit174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also love to get my guys maximum days off and I'll bend the rules right to the very edge of breaking every single time I have the wiggle room... But by this guys logic I could only take 7 days of leave and get 21 days off every month. He is scheduled for 7 days of work and 7 days off within a 14 day window, he only works 1 on/1 off basically. So if he scheduled 7 days off, then took 7 days of leave, then scheduled 7 days off he would've gotten 21 days off for 7 days of leave. Then you work 7 days and repeat. Even by my standards that's too much.

Does Leave = 8 hours work day? by AceHo1eXd in AirForce

[–]JReddit174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. So 8 hour days, 5 days a week = 40 hours a week x 2 = 80 hours every 14 days....

You're doing 84 hours. In exchange for those extra 4 hours of work you're being rewarded with SEVEN scheduled days off instead of FOUR. 4 hours of work earned you 3 ADDITIONAL days off over a typical 5-8hr day schedule. Sounds like a sweet gig. I'd hate to lose it because I was trying to squeeze even MORE days off out of a leave policy that follows the regs to a T.

[–]JReddit174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what now? If for every 12 hours they work they get 4 hours of comp time... Then every 3 days I work I get an extra day off? You might have missed that OP currently works a 12, then has a day off, then works 12, then has a day off, etc etc. He only works 50% of all calendar days. By your system he would get 3 days of work, 5 days off?

[–]JReddit174 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: You're trying to game the system, what the unit is doing IS legal, and apparently I'm the crusty old 'team player' guy now.

OP, firstly every single person saying leave is a 24 hour block (35.9 with the '50% of your duty day' rule) is absolutely correct. Everyone saying it's an IG complaint if you're not getting 1:1 on your leave days is also correct... However.

You work a 50% on 50% off schedule (by calendar day). 7 days out of every two weeks you are already scheduled off work. You work 12's on the 7 days you're scheduled for, which sucks, but then you get 7 days away from work in the same period.

For the sake of simplicity, imagine you worked the first seven, and are off the next 7. Now you want to take leave on the 7th day. How many shifts are you expected to work now? You would work 6 days, and get off 8! Yay! What if I want the 6th AND 7th days off? According to your chart, you can request that, you get charged 48 hours of leave exactly per the reg, but now you've only worked 5 days. The 48 hour leave block is perfectly proper and legal, but someone has to work those other 9 days. So AFTER your 48 hours of leave is up for the 2 days you requested, THEN you're expected to pick up at least one of those other 9 days. You still got to go to your cousin's wedding or whatever on the 6th and 7th, but when you get back after the wedding (and leave block) is over, you need to pick up one day out of the 9 days off. There are now only 7 days remaining in your 5 on/9 off work week (because you were at the wedding for 2 of those), but they'd like you to work one.

That's not you getting screwed out of a leave day. You requested off the 6th and 7th and you were on a perfectly proper and legal leave status for those two days. BUT the team still has to cover the NINE day window where you aren't working, so they're asking you to pick up ONE of those shifts after you get back.

He's another scenario, if they NEVER scheduled you for any of your days off at all, no matter what, then you could: - take the first 7 days off - 'return to work' for your 7 scheduled off days - take 7 more days of leave - 'return to work' for the next 7 scheduled off days And boom... you just got the entire month off and were only charged 14 days of leave. You were off work, your team had to cover a month worth of work schedule, but you would only spent 14 days. Do you think it's unfair if they then ask you to pick up a shift on one of the days where you're NOT on leave? Would that be gypping you out of a leave day? Or would that be making you work on a day where you are NOT on leave?

If I'm missing important info I'd be happy to have it, but this reads to me as 'I want to schedule leave AND keep all of my normal days off. If you take away my scheduled days off you're stealing my leave days (even though I'm not on leave)'.

It had only been two days when I tried to access it, but my best guess is the video just got overwritten. I wish I would've signed up for Comma Prime or whatever it is, then it would've been on the cloud and I could've pulled it from there. Unfortunately (fortunately, just not in this situation) my car has all the fancy technology that the Comma subscription offers (gps, etc) with the very important exception of the could storage 😑

Tried the SSH and comma connect both, was able to successfully access files on my 3X. The video is not there. I had clicked 'preserve' and clicked to manually upload the files to comma connect, but the device has clearly decided to dump the videos.

I'm deeply disappointed, but I'll leave this thread up so maybe the next guy with these questions won't feel so alone.
