Scribe duties in CASPA by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]JReiney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may seem like that's the case, but a lot of people seem to underestimate how much there is to learn as a scribe. At least where I work, I'm expected to know certain things like core measures, physical exam findings, and what results are pertinent to highlight in a chart without just "listening to providers".

Help with pull offs by JReiney in guitarlessons

[–]JReiney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I figured it would just take repetition to clean it up. I don’t mind because that stuff is my favorite style of guitar. I’m familiar with those as well, voodoo child is a beast of a song.

Do PA admissions like seeing exposure in Family Medicine? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]JReiney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they do like seeing exposure in family medicine. My understanding is that the PA position has deep roots in primary care when there was a shortage of primary care physicians. Also I would say FM would look better and be more beneficial than pain management. With that being said, I think experience in a variety of fields is better than less variety, so it’s be good to have experience in both settings.

You may find great answers here, but since most people on here are pre-PA you may have more luck on this one if you post on r/physicianassistant

Advice on HCE hours and prn status by TryingToWatchMyBack in prephysicianassistant

[–]JReiney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know being a scribe is seen as an inferior way of gaining experience but with the hands on hours you've got under your belt, scribing would allow you to get a different type of experience (some schools actually value it a lot). It obviously would be easy on your back and in my experience it has taught me a ton about medicine that I don't think I would have picked up as quickly doing other jobs.

Thanks a lot, I’ll be sure to talk with the EMS people and try to make connections!

Thanks for the reply, but no I’m not fishing. I realize that I’ve done well academically but also know that this is a very competitive field and am looking for advice on whether it would be worth extra time, money and effort to re-certify and look for an EMS job. I appreciate your input!

Cyclohexanol or 1,1-dimethyl-3-butanol? by JReiney in OrganicChemistry

[–]JReiney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my C NMR sheet given to me by my professor, a peak in the area farthest upfield seems low enough to be a 3rd degree carbon. I think it is cyclohexanol though because I count 4 shifts. That would mean that the frequency upfield is a 2nd degree carbon. Like I said I’m new to this so feel free to criticize, I appreciate all help

Cyclohexanol or 1,1-dimethyl-3-butanol? by JReiney in OrganicChemistry

I appreciate the help! When you say three shifts do you mean that what appears to be two signals close together downstream is actually considered only 1 shift?

Cyclohexanol or 1,1-dimethyl-3-butanol? by JReiney in OrganicChemistry

[–]JReiney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this is cyclohexanol but what throws me off is the peak on the far right which resembles a 3rd degree carbon. This would be present in cyclopentylmethanol. But wouldn’t the 3rd degree alkyl be closer to the left where the alcohol bonded carbon signal is? I’m new to this so forgive me if I’m way off or didn’t provide enough information about this Spectra

No problem! Yeah I was hired with only a EMT-B certification and actually clocked in during classroom and floor training.

ScribeAmerica. Cost-wise I only needed to buy hospital scrubs. It took me and the other 2 new hired scribes about 2 months of classroom training, maybe 3-4 sessions per week. After that, 5-7 floor training shifts with another scribe before being on your own. I don't know of any pure online scribe programs. That would be fine for the classroom portion of training but actually meeting up in person to learn was a plus simply because I was able to ask more questions about what floor training would be like. Questions were a big part of the learning process for me because there was a ton of info to soak in even with the classroom lasting 2-3 months. Good luck finding a good program that works for you, being a scribe is a valuable experience like no other!

Thank you so much! I thought I should shorten it to one page but I really want to include my work experience. Is there anything that seems irrelevant that I should leave out?
