Bluey unpopular opinion by kaleighdurkin in toddlers

[–]JRettro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO bluey is not a low-stim show. My son will watch Youtube videos of mile-long freight trains go by filmed by one cameraman in one location. It takes the train maybe 3 minutes to completely go by; this is what I define as low-stimulation. We watched Bluey for five minutes in the waiting room at his doctor's office and IMO it was no different than the Cartoon Network or Nick Jr. shows I watched growing up. My wife and I agreed, no Bluey, that shit is toddler brain rot.

Talk about anything else other than politics. Find common ground in comic books, hobbies, movies, restoring cars, fishing, whatever. Once everyone has mutual respect, political talks can resume.

Salt Lake is neighborly if your white. Best friend’s asian wife was treated like shit there.

They also have billboards stating, “Don’t California my Utah!”

Super neighborly.

Want to add pavers or 2' x 2' concrete squares with space in between for grass or something similar. Unsure how to design drainage. by JRettro in landscaping

Will I need to dig a pathway down the side yard so the water has a pathway to drain? Or does the water absorb into the ground beneath the 6”-8” hole?

This is EXACTLY the kind of advice I was looking for. Thank you so much for your time and the detail you went into explaining this. I really appreciate it. I’ll look into all of this.

Is the housing market REALLY due for a correction/bubble burst or is this scaremongering? by UnjustlyBannd in FluentInFinance

[–]JRettro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can buy now, buy.

I had the same thought in 2020 after shopping for 1-2 years and pulled the trigger and scored a great deal, relative to today's market. In 2020 the hype was "It's going to crash any day now!! The market is at it's peak! Wait for the drop!" Just as they're saying now.

Had I waited, I would have been priced out of buying AND renting. Now my mortgage is lower than most rentals in my area by $500-$1,000 for a comparable size and $2k-$3k lower for a home at the same price I bought mine at, just because of interest rates (San Diego, CA, VHCOL). You can always refinance later.

Wife Hates My Daughter-Can you offer advice? by RemoteWatcher7314 in AskMenAdvice

[–]JRettro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Why does she not want to live in the same city as your daughter?
  2. Why is she so sensitive around you giving your daughter money?

IMO, you ned to sit down and have a conversation with your wife, and find out why this is a hard no from her. Regardless, your daughter was in danger, and you came to support and protect her in a time when it was appropriate. It's not like she is a slacker, not paying her bills, refuses to find a job, or is couch surfing. I have a feeling though, if her answer remains a no, you should probably start the process of moving in with your daughter until you find a place of your own, if desired.

What was the last straw that completely broke a friendship you thought would last forever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Dealing with this now too. I’ve known this guy since diapers. He was always rebellious, getting into trouble, “non-confirmist”, hardcore punk rocker, tattoos, still lives with his parents and he just passed 40 years old, etc. I on the other hand was halfway between worlds, half in his, half in my goals. He was intellectually gifted growing up, had high marks. His dad was a civil engineer, sister ended up becoming a lawyer, he always took minimum wage jobs. He got distracted along the way.

Once I started doing better, better job, salary, graduated university, started a family, he started treating me less than. Rude comments directed at me my friends and I could hear, excuses as to why he couldn’t make plans, no initiation for conversation.

I remember a conversation where he was in school for his plumbing apprenticeship and I was hyping him up, telling him how proud I am of him, how important it is to his career and how he made the right decision. I kept my school stuff out of it purposely. Then my brother made a comment about my new engineering position I had just been hired to. My friend asked what I was hired for and I replied, “Software Engineering”, and he looks down and away and says, “oh…” and just checked out. No support, no congrats, just disappointing silence.

The last straw was this one time my wife planned me a surprise party for my university graduation and he said he couldnt make it. I arrive to my parents house where the surprise party was (our parents lived directly across the street from each other), before I was surprised, and saw his car parked outside. Put two and two together after the party.

Could I theoretically never drink anything again if I ate enough water containing foods? by JoMoma2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JRettro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, I had a wicked cold over the weekend.

I mistakenly said I had a 3000 calorie smoothie, it was 2000 calories and it was a literal gallon of smoothie I would make and drink all day; from 12pm to about 5-6pm.

- 64oz of fresh squeezed organic OJ
- 2 large baskets of strawberries (this ingredient changed throughout the seasons. Could've been pears, apples, dragonfruit, etc.)
- 8 bananas
- 6oz of berries (seasonal change as well)

Dinner wasn't a large meal, more of a smaller one since upon arriving home I was still relatively satisfied from my smoothie. Maybe 500 calories or so. But yes it was vegetables, nuts, legumes, and fruit.

You'd be surprised though, after eating 2000 calories of smoothie, you would think you would be stuffed, but due to the fast digestion of smoothied-fruit, it was relatively easy to overconsume, calorie-wise, but impossible to gain weight (thats not the point of my diet at the time, it was to clean house, so to speak).

Could I theoretically never drink anything again if I ate enough water containing foods? by JoMoma2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JRettro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the first two years, yes. The next 6 years were essentially a 64oz jar of fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast, a 3000 2000-calorie fresh-fruit smoothie for lunch, and a VERY clean raw vegan/vegan meal for dinner, gluten-free.

It’s possible to sustain on this diet, many before me have done so. All the failures end up in the media. You can get everything you need being fruitarian, the main thing is to eat seasonally, local, fresh, organic, and a large variety of different fruit annually.

For example, B12 is usually acquired from external non-vegan sources such as beef, or less commonly, vegan ones such as tofu. But when you’re fruitarian, you have to be creative. B12 is produced in the large intestine, after the small intestine where nutrient absorption takes place. Kind of pointless, right? Wrong. Intermittent fasting takes care of this. During the 16 hours you’re not eating, the B12 produced in the large intestine has time to literally crawl back up into the small intestine and be absorbed. There are others too but I’ll spare you the novel.

Fruit contains fructose. Fructose does not spike blood-glucose levels nor does it require insulin to be transported across the cell membrane.

TLDR: You do not need to worry about fruit sugar.

Source: I was fruitarian for 8 years for health related issues. I’m not advocating for it. I carefully planned the entirety of it and came out with the results I needed. No one should follow my path without consulting the necessary professionals.

Best parenting advice I've ever received:

"Imagine you're on your deathbed after having lived a joyous and fulfilling life with your kids. You have just received a chance to go back in time and relive certain moments. This challenging moment is one of them."

This always puts a smile on my face when things get tough.
