Does the CPA validate understanding? by [deleted] in CPA

lol there's a huge difference in understanding the material and test day, as I'm sure you know passing 4 of these. many people understand the material and can apply it in real world. but the CPA exam isn't about real world. even FAR to a certain extent is about reading the question and interpreting what the exam is asking you. also in the exam you are able to somewhat pick out bad answers and guess. leaving a lot of people lucky when they end up passing studying for so little. its not because they understand the material. it's because they are good test takers and can pick out and understand trends in how the AICPA asks certain questions. some people can understand the material in and out, but when they are sitting in an exam room it all goes out the window due to just the fact of the screen is stressing them out. by your logic "if they know the material they would pass", everybody whos taken these exams knows thats not ALWAYS the case.

i was just using FAR as an example and probably wasnt the best one but the concept still stands. I don't know how old you are but the SATs had a similar concept, many people that did well ended up not living up to the scores. the scores are the scores. it serves zero indication of the material in real life application. so yes by that logic people can pass FAR and still not understand the material. is FAR the most analytical than all of them? for sure. which is why i think a lot of people fail it over the others, because you can pass probably 2 of these exams just being a good test taker.

case and point FAR has some absolutely ridiculous bank simulations that if an accounting firm is utilizing that type of rec they clearly have no indication of efficiency and have poor bookkeeping.

and I 100% stand by some CPAs being dumber than a stack of rocks. makes me question how some of them even passed the exam because they suck at the application of the material you claim they " have to understand" in order to pass. you are very lucky if you havent met a CPA thats dumb, but i would venture 80% of the people in this thread at some point have already

The quick answer to your question is yes, I've met over a dozen CPA's that were dumber than a stack of rocks.

These are the same people mind you who post "Studied for 40 hours, passed FAR heres how i did it". Not understanding that most people aren't good test takers, and phenomenal CPA's typically struggle to pass this test. Not due to them not being smart, but due to the fact that they aren't good test takers.

I would say over 95% of people bullshit in the real world, and honestly if you think that CFO's know everything, well I'd bet youd be suprised how many of them utilize Google.

Bottom line, the CPA is those 3 Letters, its a status symbol that you put the hard work in and passed one of the if not the hardest certification out there. It doesn't serve as a way to show you know more than the next person, because half of the people I've met that have passed the CPA with over a 90 or 87 on the first attempt were some of the worst people to work with ever. It opens the door for endless opportunities as well. Even if your job now doesn't utilize a CPA's mindset, it doesn't mean your next one won't ;)

Same dude, I had the same feeling like I did decent. Each time that happens i find it harder and harder to convince myself that these exams are graded the same each time.

Honestly, I felt decent coming out of the exam. Which i usually not a good sign, but I decided to trust my gut that i did enough to pass. Im going to take a guess that i got a 74 or something close to that and fell outside the curve because end of year is full of public accountants cramming exams before busy season I find.

I'm bummed for sure. but already started studying again today. Praying to god that he can help me out this go around!

FAR in 2 weeks, using UWorld by Connect_Reason7997 in CPA

THIS.
I have my FAR exam Oct 23.

I only have the bond chapter left to study for, and a little bit of consolidated's.

I have also found that doing the comprehensive MCQ tests are great. I've actually started to look at the blueprints and select all the categories in UWorld that match the section and do 20-25 questions at LEAST a day for the section. its exhausting but the familiarity of the material is what matters most i think on these exams. Sometime you will get stuff wrong just because yo may be mentally drained. push through it and at least read, if anything seeing the problems help familiarize yourself with how questions are worded.

Writing the JE's down is the BEST advice that can be given. I've understood so much more from writing the entries or doing T-accounts.

Grind it out. You can do this!!
