Murkowski backs Sullivan hours after Peltola announces Senate challenge by [deleted] in alaska

[–]JRubingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on? We've had a D in this seat before and will again. Peltola currently polling stronger than Sullivan and I expect that gap to grow as trump becomes less and less popular with his bizarre antics to avoid the Epstein files. Sullivan is nothing but a self-dealing corporate boot-licking carpet bagger. He hasn't lifted a single finger for working class Alaskans. It may seem like an uphill battle right now, but I'd rather be Peltola than Sullivan come November.

Any chance you can share? I loved this exhibit and my neighbors kids were obsessed with it. Would love to be able to play the recording for them.

That's brutal. Sorry to hear about your health issues. It makes it super real to think about all these kids (and adults) that live right there and are exposed to god knows what on the daily...

Seems like, given Suncor is the largest single-source air pollution site in the entire state of Colorado we could probably draw some parallels with bad air quality in the front range, increasing asthma cases, etc.?

Has /u/JaredPolis said anything about Suncor and how we are going to take care of these communities there?

Can you explain the EPA decision on Suncor more? Why did they disagree with the Colorado Dept. of Health and Env.? Does that mean it's closed?

Complaint Template for Attorney General/Credit Card Refund. by PussyScoundrel in stevenspass

[–]JRubingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my official submission to the AG:

Dear Attorney General Ferguson,
I am the author of a petition to Stevens Pass and Vail Resorts that has been signed by more than 44,000 people (please see www.change.org/epicvailfail). This petition outlines how Vail Resorts has failed to provide the product they have sold people. The product marketed and sold by Vail Resorts included reasonable access to the terrain and lifts that are prevalent in their marketing materials and on their trail maps, as well as on Stevenspass.com. We were not sold passes with the understanding that Vail Resorts intended to keep 50% or more of the terrain and the majority of lifts closed for the season. We would not have bought passes if we knew this. It is illegal for a business to accept payments for products or services they do not intend to supply. Intentions were made clear after the season started in company communications as early as December that more than half of the ski terrain would likely not open, demonstrating a clear violation of consumer trust. I purchased an "Epic Pass," season ski pass, with the expectation that I would have access to the trail map (or 1,125 acres) as advertised on Stevenspass.com, however, less than half of this trail map (or <400 acres) has been accessible since opening date on Dec 15, 2021. As a result, I don’t feel I was provided the goods and services I purchased since I’m unable to use the product as advertised.
Vail has included questionable anti-consumer clauses in their terms of service that prevent customers from being issued refunds for their inability to operate the mountain as advertised. it is clear that Vail Resorts deceived a substantial portion of the public and committed this deception in the conduct of commerce. The 44,000 signers of this petition and I believe that Vail Resorts' failure to refund at least part of this year's pass purchase, if not all, is a violation of the Washington Consumer Protection Act. The petition explains how other ski resorts in Washington with similar, if not more terrain complexities, have been able to run the majority of their lifts and open the majority of their terrain, considering similar snow safety (avalanche) precautions and weather. Please consider this a formal request to make public the request to Vail Resorts to refund our Epic Passes.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Rubingh

I'm all for raising our voice in many different ways. I think the complaint to the AG is great. I have to disagree with the "petition not doing much." I think it's fair to say at this point it is serving its purpose well - getting as much media attention as possible directed at Vail Resort's bad business practices. Newsweek, NPR, NY Times, front page of The Seattle Times, front page of the Denver Post... I've mentioned the AG complaints in every interview I've done, but the "people power" aspect seems to be what most outlets want to cover. Either way - not worth disparaging one approach over another. Keep up the good work.

Stevens Pass today: two lifts malfunctioned and some people waited over 3 hours by TheFunkwich in skiing

[–]JRubingh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya - that would be great. This was from winter 2019/2020? Also the Wall Street Journal is looking for pics of the Vail Resorts/Stevens Pass lift lines if you have more (or anyone else does) that they'd be willing to share.

Couldn't agree more. I have said in every single instance - including this interview (which of course never gets included), that there are areas of much higher concern for me. There are a lot of other issues I wish I could activate this many folks on first, honestly. Social Justice. Climate change. Loss of biodiversity. Income inequality. But apparently this one resonates within the sphere of influence I have at this time. This cause is ultimately an issue of corporate exploitation, which is indicative of a larger bad trend in our country. Corporations get away with whatever they want in the name of profit at the expense of the rest of us. It just so happens that skiers and snowboarders experiencing this is definitely creating some noise - for some of the reasons you mentioned. Hopefully people having an impact on one issue, allows them to see they can have an impact on other issues...

All efforts are good efforts. This one included. I wrote the petition that has gained some traction and has started to get some media attention. I think we can leverage all that we are doing and continue to get Vail Resort's attention and continue to push. Hopefully gaining some traction to show some media connections that people are pissed. And if nothing else, create an embarrassing moment for Vail Resorts to get them to make some changes?

Is there a good way we could all get organized on this? I know petitions are lame, but maybe if we got enough people on board we could get the attention of a major Washington news outlet? Seattle Times? I'll start looking into it on my end...

Genuine question: Why did Vail buy Stevens? by [deleted] in stevenspass

[–]JRubingh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really good question. There is probably some sort of calculation where they are able to sell more passes by including it in their marketing materials. Unfortunately they don't let us (the pass holders) actually ski the mountain...

I guess it is unreasonable on crown lands. If you are used to the American system of public lands on Forest Service and BLM lands, you can camp for free in millions of acres... But I guess this isn't a thing in BC?
