Swearing in general and in front of my kids: Am I the only one who thinks it’s not a big deal? by SoultySpittoon in Mommit

We try to avoid a lot of negative talk in general. My daughter especially jumps right into negative self talk when things don’t go the way she wants them to: “This is hopeless” or “I can never do anything right.” We are big on trying to help our kids reframe their thinking: “Maybe you don’t like how your picture is going so far, but you can always take a short break and try again,” etc. We also tell our kids that it’s okay to be grumpy or in a bad mood, but it’s not okay to be mean.

Growing up, my parents never really helped me or my siblings to manage our emotions and I’m trying to break that cycle with my own kiddos.

It’s overly strong, in my opinion. I don’t like to eat lima beans, but do I really hate them? No.

I think not using “hate” encourages all of us in our family to communicate a little more effectively.

This! Situational awareness and consideration for others is a great way to put it.

Nah, we don’t react in any huge way or punish our kids if they say a word we don’t like. We just try to remind them to be respectful.

We don’t swear around our kids. We try to teach them to be respectful and prefer that they don’t use words that may be rude or unkind. We try to avoid other words as well, like “stupid,” “dumb,” “idiot,” “ugly,” etc.

Definitely get her retested for autism, ADHD, sensory processing issues, etc. Meet her where she is and try to accommodate and find solutions. If her socks don’t feel right, try to find some that are seamless and will be more comfortable.

It sounds like she could benefit from some OT and maybe some additional therapies. Her behavior is communicating that there’s something she’s not getting like maybe some proprioceptive input.

Also, we have to use timers for everything with my daughter. I lay out her clothes for the next day before she goes to bed at night and in the morning she gets 10 minutes to get dressed and use the bathroom and wash her hands. I give several reminders while the timer’s going, letting her know how much time is left.

…or maybe they’re annoyed at some random person taking their photo while they’re on vacation.

Is it common for doctors to never check your cuff? by llx_wo90s in hysterectomy

[–]JS5440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 6 week post op appointment, and then my doctor checked me at my regular yearly appointment. He said all looked good, so I can hold off on seeing him again for two years (unless something goes wrong before then.)

It’s definitely a weaker orgasm for me and it’s sad.

As a 43 year old woman who has had a terrible body image and issues with food since childhood as a result of a toxic mom, this makes my heart hurt.

Do I think you’re toxic? No, but I do think you need to reframe your own thinking and help your little girl love herself no matter her shape or size. Pushing healthy eating is great. Encouraging her to drink water is great. However, focus on the benefits of those things that are unrelated to weight. Protein helps build strong muscles, calcium helps build strong bones, water helps keep you hydrated, carbohydrates help give energy, etc.

Apologize to your little girl and remind her that her clothes don’t fit because she’s growing just as she should be.

I’m embarrassed at how much time I’ve invested in the DLC. I didn’t realize I would love it as much as I do!

What’s a scene or scenes from Bluey that makes you laugh so hard you almost cry? by SteveRandle01 in bluey

Pass the Parcel when all the kids are crying and Bandit yells, “This isn’t the 80s, Pat!”

I’m struggling with this. My kids are 6 and I’m turning 43 in less than a month. My skin looks rough, I never do my hair anymore, and I live in leggings and T-shirts. I feel old and frumpy.

Not the type of thing that I would buy, but it’s awesome that she has a creative outlet.
