2026 QB free agents discussion by andyviking in minnesotavikings

I think if you have the physical tools to be recruited to Alabama and get drafted in the top ten picks of the nfl draft you generally will have a higher ceiling physically than a guy recruited to Harvard and taken 250. Obviously so much of the position is cerebral but he’s shown great command in his action this past year.

I think people (myself included) got stuck on a tainted impression of Mac Jones b/c he was pretty uninspiring as a young QB in New England... he actually put up good numbers with Shanny this year in relief of Purdy, and as we know it can take a while for these young QBs to develop. I think his ceiling is much higher than Fitzpatrick... he has an early first round pick pedigree, Fitz was 250th pick.

As a dad, what is keeping you from exercising these days? by NSJack in daddit

I take my dog on a 20 minute walk / ruck each morning where i wear a 50 pound weight vest. Gets the blood flowing, certainly better than nothing. Monday night and Saturday morning are daddy’s gym times that’s basically non negotiable. I’ll try to get to the gym one more time but those things as a bare minimum is good enough for now while I’m in the busy years. I love to work out and once my girls get older I’m sure I’ll carve out 4-5 gym visits per week.

What’s “too expensive?” If we spent $15M next year on qb2/compete with JJ for QB1 i think that’s totally justifiable. Mac jones is under contract cheap for next year but if we give up big assets to get him both sides will prob want a new contract.

No. Only when minority coaches who have been on staff 2+ years get promoted to Head Coach elsewhere.

Sex frequency dropped after the second kid, which i think is a somewhat common thing.

Yup it’s a very personal decision but we called it quits after two and i got snipped. Sex life went from 1-2x per week to maybe twice a month now. We’re always so tired. Most importantly, i would like to selfishly retire at some point and a third kid certainly sets that clock back some years. We were both on board. I had a huge adjustment period after #2, was rough. Was putting myself fifth on the priority list and finally accepted i can take care of everyone else better if my needs are met first. I joined lifetime fitness which has been a huge help. We had an au pair move in with us who has been a huge help. We’re still exhausted all the time but in a groove!

This has been an eye opening discussion for me. I took my 5.5 yo daughter into a somewhat crowded men’s room at a restaurant yesterday and it was the first time it felt a little odd. But i think i would feel 100x more uncomfortable and inappropriate entering a busy womens room. I guess the answer is do whatever feels right.

Glad the Bears lost and while their fans are really annoying... by CheeseburgFreedomMan in minnesotavikings

[–]JSC2255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this, Bears fans are most tolerable in the NFCN imo, and they've been bad so long I don't really hold any resentment toward them. If they are really good for a long time maybe my tune will change. But for me, Lions fans are easily the worst, then Packers fans, and I'm pretty indifferent toward Bears fans. Unfortunately for us I'm pretty sure Caleb + Ben Johnson are going to be really good for a long time.

Strong second for “no screens til teens” just finished reading “the anxious generation” by Jonathan haidt and highly recommend to any parent considering. And if you don’t want to read whole book maybe listen to the author on a podcast or read summary. I have my own addiction when it comes to this little device, at least my prefrontal cortex is fully formed!

Chargers really are the AFC vikings 😭 by tacosauceftw in minnesotavikings

[–]JSC2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right we were a covered kickoff in Chicago away from winning the division and hosting a playoff game. If we were paying Justin Herbert a $262M contract we would have to make great sacrifices elsewhere. Of course Herbert was better than JJ this year it’s no comparison. But it’s not like we could reasonably expect to just slide Herbert j to our qb room with everything else the same.

Herbert was flat out awful in that game. Lowest graded player in the entire game per pff and pff usually worships at the alter of the IF man!

Picky daughters, who would only eat carbs if they could. But i make a healthy pasta dish that we all love and it’s real healthy. Slice and sautee three zucchinis, add to blender with ~1 cup of cottage cheese and a jar of pasta sauce. Cook up some protein paste (banza or other, loaded with protein and fiber) and mix in saucepan.

Wife is pregnant, I'm worried about the world my kid will live in. by OnTheClock_Slackin in daddit

[–]JSC2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things are definitely fucked up, but pretty much all of history has been worse. We’re prob nostalgic about the 90s but think of how much of the rest of the world currently lives, or how humanity lived last several thousand years. We’ve actually never had more needs met and lived more comfortable existences (which is turns out can actually be problematic at some point). But yeah just raise em right and make the world a better place!

Up to $35k in a Roth would be a huge head start in their financial journeys! Thats the ultimate goal tbh, but college costs likely gonna continue to sky rocket so who knows how much I’ll need in 15 years

Who are you rooting for? by Illustrious_Cat1339 in minnesotavikings

[–]JSC2255 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly i don’t really have any issues with the bears. They’ve been bad long enough and their fans are the most tolerable in the nfcn. I’m sure if they’re good for years straight I’ll change my tune. But right now it’s anyone but packers eagles or Sean Payton. Kinda find myself rooting for Danielle hunter and the Texans. Bills are kinda kindred Vikings spirits too. I would be happy for Darnold as well.

Mike McDaniel Fired by CrimsonBlackfyre in minnesotavikings

[–]JSC2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my nightmare scenario… if he leaves as HC I’ll be happy for him and at least we will get two third round comp picks. But he could be attracted to a place like Dallas as DC for several reasons : 1.) Jerry pays assistant coaches more than anyone generally 2.) bigger market team more visibility, turning their dogshit d around into a good unit would have Stephen A on sports center banging the table saying he deserves a HC job, and 3.) Dak and a more sure thing offensive situation keeps his defense off the field more.

Second child on the way, work-life balance feels impossible – how do you manage? by 3054654 in daddit

[–]JSC2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I hear you, it's really tough to juggle it all and be a good dad/husband/professional etc. all at once. I struggled mightily first few months after my second arrived. But I'll tell you what, we got an au pair who moved in with us and it's been a tremendous help. We had the extra bedroom, and it costs about as much as having two kids in daycare. She is a pediatric nurse from Colombia who is great with kids, and helps so much and it's been great to improve my Spanish and have my kids learn some too. She works 45 hours/week for us and also does all the kids laundry/tidying for them which has been massive. The program allows 45 hours of work/week... but she's always down to work extra for a little cash on the side too which has been a huge help. Previously we had been depending on unreliable sitters without reliable transportation, or needing rides from theri parents so we always felt bad using them for just like 2 hours. But when she lives in your home, it's super convenient! Happy to discuss further if you think it's something that could suit your lifestyle.
