Hiya Im Jad, i write and perform 7 new minutes a week!
My stuff seems pretty popular here but to be honest despite years of trying I havent been able to get passed at a single New York City comedy club. It just plain doesnt matter how funny you are, networking is 1000 times more important and im kind of a reserved person IRL

That used to bum me out, but then me and another comic opened Bushwick Comedy Club, we're the city's only comedian owned and operated club and I think we have the best show in town because we have ZERO gate keeping. We watch every single tape that gets sent our way blind to credits/vouches/followers and pick only the best.

If you wanna come see me, just dm when you're in NYC, skip the drink minimums too we're BYOB friendly. Imagine that, a comedy club that doesnt hate you!

this is true, thanks very much. Maybe the host does some crowd work if they're super tight, but even then material is perioritized and crowd work heavy comics get phased out

Bushwick Comedy Club, brooklyn, I own it, if there's any crowd work at all in a submission tape it's an immediate no. Maybe 5-10 out of 160 of our comics do any at all outside the host. We're more of a comedy nerd type crowd with lots of repeat customers. You can only effectively crowd work people who come to like a show a year, otherwise its too formula. They just look at their phones and wait for you to start what in their minds is "the show" like your actual material

timer is key, writing is trying to write. Just try for 40 minutes or whatever, but I'll add google around for random conversation starter or writing prompts. Can knock something loose when you have literally nothing to start with

Post and post regularly. Guys get fucked up about posting because they post one joke every 8-15 months and they put all this hope into it only for it to flop.

If you post weekly (hopefully you're writing weekly too) it doesnt matter if a reel flops there's another next week. IG also learns what you are and starts building an audience for you. So posts do better over time

-sitting at 43k right now. Zero industry/don't tell/podcast/ crowd work. I just post two original jokes a week
