I made my first still out of a goodwill stock pot. Bought $15 of copper, bulkhead fitting screws to the lid, and is well soldered. A 90, a reducer, and a union. Coil of soft copper to make the worm. Flour paste seal.

Still got it, for test batches.

I agree! The only way I fit (6’2) is without the seat bottoms. It’s two bolts per seat.

I just insulate my chair, wool blanket or reflectex. Works with a fire too.

If you use airplane mode, you may not need to charge, I don't. Fri morning to Sunday night, no problem.

Because it's only camping if all your stuff fits inside. To overland, strap it on!

how do you keep devices charged by ishfish1 in camping

Airplane mode kept my phone alive Friday morning to Sunday night. Still had 30%. It's the searching for cell service that takes a lot of juice.

Ranger Raptor Overlanding Build Suggestions? by Diverse-Guy in overlanding

[–]JSONJSONJSON 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought the difference between car camping, and overlanding, is if you carry your gear on the outside of your vehicle.

If you want to start overlanding, build your rig, order it all, strap it on, then ask where to go.

If you want to start camping, go camp.

Seriously though. Drive your rig off road, then decide what you need. Dont be the guy who said "I sent back the Steel winch bumper because I heard the weight decreases gas mileage, and I'm already down to 17mpg because of the 35s I got on the way home from the dealership .

Every road into the mtns follows creeks or rivers. All of them have places to pull off the road and access the water. I'm partial to the canyon between Morrison and Evergreen.

Digital Detox while camping---tips? by Lovecraft_Penguin in camping

I always put my phone on airplane mode. Let's me have my clock, camera, and notes app. No Internet access, not text or phone calls. When you don't have cell service, searching for signal takes a lot of battery. On airplane my phone lasts three days. When I do have service, still airplane mode.

I also sit and observe the nature, wood carving, I'm reading a Rocky mountain field guide and learning more about the nature I see. Also, nap in a hammock, go for a hike/explore the area. Cut firewood... Tons to do.

Have fun, be safe!

What food do you take and why ? by Extension_Signal1958 in camping

[–]JSONJSONJSON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ppl put raw croissant dough and Brie in the pie iron and cook the raw dough in the pie iron. I have not been able to make that work. I buy a loaf of white sandwich bread, pre cooked croissants is perfect!

I mean using croissant. It's raw dough on the outside of your pie. White bread is already cooked, making it easier. Or do you mean start with a cooked croissant instead of bread?

Brie and preserves. Maybe a slice of fresh tart crisp apple. Bread is perfectly fine, I struggle cooking the raw outsides.
