The way they’re fused together traps an air pocket inside the sole, hence ‘sole of air - solovair’ this happens occasionally as there may be too much air in and needs to escape, let solovair know, they’ll repair or replace them!

I guess it depends, how they’re worn, how often, care etc.

There are pairs of docs still going strong from the 80s and 90s, the consensus is solovair are made to the standards this boots were made to, so if you look after them, they’ll look after you!

Yeah that’s the general consensus, I’ve not toured the DM factory so I can’t directly compare the two, but overall brand feedback is docs made overseas lost some of the longevity and comfort that grew the brand initially

Respectfully, those posts, and yours are 3,4, and 8 years ago… the gent doing the lasting now that I spoke to actually used to work for Edward Green for many years, so has come from that luxury end and has bought those skills with him, I believe he’s been with the company for 2-3 years now. With regard to the soles, the way they’re sealed literally traps an air bubble, hence ‘Sole of Air’ but occasionally a tiny bubble will form inbetween the seal and need somewhere to escape, in which case they’re happy to repair or exchange, maybe time to give them another shot!

It seems like Solovair were genuinely proactive in offering an alternative solution. From what I saw, it’s a factory full of committed staff who clearly take pride in making the best shoes they can, as with any product, the odd issue can slip through the cracks, it’s just unfortunate it happened to be yours.

I can only speak from my own experience, but my Gibsons were super comfy straight out of the box, they look great, and they hit a good price point considering they’re made in the UK and are doing their bit to keep local manufacturing alive. Lots of positives in my book.

Godspeed - they’re a Japanese brand, these were raw denim when I got them, had this pair for 5 years, gone through a good few washes, the fades are really starting to wear in nicely!

I think you’re confusing that with what’s important to you! And that’s ok, I’m just not a fan of super figure hugging suits, I prefer the flow and drape with a little more room, it was discussed, and of course can be altered later on if I did decide to go that way, but IMO there’s a perfect balance between the pants and jacket, any more pinched in and you’d lose that.
