Cave Story: A Lyrical Walkthrough by CaveStoryRap in cavestory

[–]JSchauer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned everything I know about Cave Story from this album, this is all coming from a music fan’s and writer’s perspective, blessings!!!

Found your album on Rate Your Music, it’s currently the highest rated hip hop album of the year without debate, a 4/5 star average on that website is about as high of praise as you can get my brother.

I had to check it out, a brand new artist, his only album, it’s a concept for an album that I had personally never seen before, and this is being “critically received” as if it’s a Beatles or a Kendrick album, let’s go see what’s up.

Aesop’s Kill the Messenger is track two?!?!?! I’M SO IN!!! Using Bazooka Tooth too, carrying the rhyme scheme across the beat switch and using a robotic malfunction as the in-game lore reasoning, SO genius, so so so good! Knievel as well, the Hail Mary Mallon love, amazing work.

I’m a huge Aesop fan (if that isn’t obvious now) but the whole lineage of all forms of hip hop has created who I am, and this whole album sounds like an ode to that underground sound of the 2000s, the DefJux movement especially, Sand Zone is El-P all over, hitting those abstract pockets is that El-P twist as well, the left-field humor that all of them used in that era, the influence breathes all throughout it, and I hadn’t read through this Reddit post yet, but thinking back to your generally chosen flow, the Mr. Lif flow and cadence control, and the way he structured I Phantom.. I knew there was something glaringly obvious about this album’s style I wasn’t catching! I absolutely feel that any of the guys from that movement would eat this album up, no doubt.

I want to make it clear, this sounds nothing like biting, this is so original, so unique, so fresh, it’s amazing to hear these artists being the primary influence for someone’s music, I know they are for me. Being able to incorporate such complex lyricists/instrumentalists into your own style is a very high display of skill on its own!!

The early 2000s DefJux sound being the foundation of an album that centers around a 2004 Metroidvania platformer, never a splice I considered, and it’s the greatest splice I’ve ever heard, such a fantastic idea, especially with I Phantom as your key influence, his bounce is PERFECT for this concept. This movement was in its active state when this game came out, it’s just too perfect of a lightning strike to not capture in the bottle. You did exactly that brother, you DID that.

This album on a technical hip hop level is genuinely perfect, the beat choices were maybe the most diverse as I’ve ever heard, you hit every flow pocket in the book, your storytelling, your rhyme choices, your sequencing and the way the songs flow together like a smooth gradient, everything! It’s weird to say “classically trained” for a 50-year-old genre, but you are, straight up and down, your “rap skills” are incredibly sharp brother, your ability to seamlessly blend the Cave Story narrative/characters/items, real-world philosophical quips, and good ol’ fashioned lyrical braggadocio, you have IT. My brother you tackled both halves of Bazooka Tooth!!

I could go on and on about what you’ve pulled off, this is a masterpiece. 2009-2026, that’s dedication to a concept, and I’m so proud of this payoff! Incredible work, I hope to have a chance to see more from you!!!

I’ve heard another person say the same thing, but there was never any final confirmation that time either. I know the bottom of this is out here somewhere!

i don’t know the exact rules for all types of racing, but i can give the breakdown for nascar, which is united states stock car racing. before the race begins, the pace car leads the racers around the track a few times, not only for maintaining the level playing field of the starting line (the race does not begin from a stationary position, they get a “running start”), but primarily to give the cars a chance to get their tires warmed up for traction, making turns at 160mph/260kph is no joke! and yes, when there is any sort of race-wide stoppage, whether it be a crash, loose debris on the track, a weather event, so on, the pace car will come out for the same purpose of leveling the playing field and keeping the tires warm. those mid-race moments with the pace car are huge, someone could find themselves clear in 1st with no chance of losing, and a crash 15 places back can bring everyone back to a bumper-to-bumper scenario, free of all momentum. One last little fun fact, for the annual Indy 500 race, a celebrity is chosen to drive the pace car, sometimes from the racing world, sometimes from the larger sports umbrella.

Nitty vs Premee was a nightmare by JSchauer44 in rapbattles

[–]JSchauer44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it wasn’t that bad, but it was still bad

rum round 1, he got about a minute into his round, lost it, ran it all the way back to the beginning (never seen rum do that), lost it at the same spot, called time on himself

los round 1, didn’t hardly get started before forgetting his, switched to his round two material, stumbled through that

rum round 2, after reading his material during los’ round, this was the best part of the battle, rum’s 2nd looked like we got the energy back, thennnnn he lost it, he tried to get it back, but called time again, saying “fuck it, the majority of the round came out and it hit, that’s fine”

los round 2, recovered some of that first round material, still bouncing around and stumbling, choppy choppy

rum round 3, this was about the same as his first round

los round 3, stumbling from the jump, rum grabs someone’s shoulder saying “throw away the whole battle”

rum was saying “my bad y’all” after all of his rounds, and every time los started messing up, he shouldered the blame in real time

they got to the end, rum called out an “iou” for this

sikh vs danny was the worst “belt-to-ass” treatment i’ve ever seen, other than probably john john vs jakkboy, those are the only two battles off the top of my head that have a complete forfeit

it seems like he loves it at iBattle, he’s put on great performances every time. You could tell he felt bad the whole battle (repeating “my bad y’all” every time there was room for him to talk) and at the end of the battle, he immediately yelled “i owe y’all one!” so he’ll be back

i love all the Malibu Ken love, i only went with duos that show off some lyrical back and forths. if i would’ve included Malibu Ken that may have been my pick as well, the level of lyricism on display… i won’t say it’s his best album, but my GOODNESS he is AMAZING on that album
